Today, the visiting Blue Jays have Kevin Gausman on the mound, and I am particularly optimistic about his strikeout prop. The opposing White Sox lineup consists of eight batters who strike out more frequently than the league average. None of them have elite ratings, nor are there any exceptional hitters. Additionally, Chicago’s average hitter matchup rating is slightly better than average.
Throughout the entire season, this roster has consistently underperformed and failed to make a significant impression. Their strikeout rate, ranking ninth-worst in the MLB, has been particularly disappointing. In fact, opposing pitchers have managed to surpass this underwhelming statistic in three out of the last five games against them.
Although Gausman has only gone over 6.5 strikeouts twice this season, he has recorded at least six strikeouts in six of his ten starts this season. The Blue Jays veteran comes into today’s game with an average hitter matchup strikeout percentage of 32.45%. According to Batters-Box.com, when pitchers have a rating above 32%+, they go over 6.5 strikeouts 55% of the time.
In their recent three games, the White Sox team has recorded an average of 10.67 strikeouts per game. Specifically, we only require seven of these strikeouts to be attributed to Mr. Kevin Gausman.

The young standout pitcher for the Pirates has been impressive on the mound this season, causing a lot of trouble for opposing hitters. Today, he will face a struggling Tigers team that has been having difficulty avoiding strikeouts. Detroit currently ranks as the tenth worst team in strikeout percentage for the season. It’s not surprising considering their lineup includes Javy Baez, who is known for his tendency to strike out frequently.

Tonight, the Tigers’ lineup consists of eight batters who have strikeout rates higher than the league average, along with one exceptional hitter, Kerry Carpenter (whom I predicted would successfully make a hit at -143 odds). The overall rating of their hitter matchups is higher than average, indicating an unfavorable situation.
Jones has been consistently dominating with strikeouts this season, surpassing this milestone in seven out of ten starts. Similar to Kevin Gausman, Jones has an impressive average hitter matchup strikeout percentage of over 32%. Considering his past performance, I expect this to be a favorable matchup for Jones. He has faced challenging situations repeatedly and should handle it well, even against a Tigers roster that has been improving their batting recently.
