Matchroom has secured a multi-fight promotional deal with Jaron “Boots” Ennis, the reigning IBF Welterweight champion.
In July 2023, the individual from Philadelphia, who is currently 26 years old, emerged victorious in their fight against Roiman Villa, securing a knockout in the 10th round. This fight took place in Atlantic City and was for the interim title. Following this triumph, the IBF promoted the individual to full champion status. This promotion occurred after Terence “Bud” Crawford was stripped of the belt by the sanctioning body. Crawford had previously become the undisputed welterweight champion that summer by defeating his closest rival, Errol Spence Jr. However, it is worth noting that Crawford still holds the WBC, IBF, and WBA titles in the 147lbs weight class.
Eddie Hearn, the promoter for Matchroom Boxing, has openly expressed his admiration for Ennis, boasting an impressive record of 31 wins and 28 knockouts. It is reported that Hearn had discussions with Ennis’ representatives last year. Ennis was previously promoted by Cameron Dunkin and fought on Showtime during their agreement with Premier Boxing Champions. However, as the broadcast deal concluded last year, Amazon Prime joined forces with PBC as their new broadcast partner.
Hearn, who currently represents Jesse Rodriguez, Devin Haney, and Edgar Berlanga in the United States, has now added another fighter to his roster. This fighter is scheduled to make a comeback to the ring this summer for his first title defense.
Ennis expressed his excitement regarding the partnership with Eddie Hearn, Matchroom, and DAZN.
“I am eagerly anticipating the opportunity to further establish my legacy and claim the title of undisputed world champion. After a year of absence from the ring, I am filled with excitement to return and showcase my talents, entertaining the fans and providing exemplary performances. Exciting and highly anticipated fights await me in the future, and I am prepared to deliver nothing short of a spectacular show.”
Hearn conveyed his joy regarding the newest addition to the Matchroom Boxing roster.
I’m absolutely amazed by this signing! I’ve been closely following this individual for numerous years, and my belief in their potential to become an exceptional pound-for-pound fighter has never wavered. Without a doubt, they are unquestionably the finest competitor in their division.
“We are determined to bring Jaron into the spotlight by securing the most significant fights in boxing, as his position as the IBF titleholder in a prestigious division puts him at the forefront of the sport.”
Jaron possesses all the essential qualities to establish himself as a widely recognized figure in the sport, especially within his Philadelphia hometown, which is known for its fervent sporting community. We are dedicated to nurturing his growth and development. Fans can eagerly anticipate his comeback this summer, as he sets his sights on securing high-profile matches that will propel him to the top of the pound-for-pound rankings.
