When and why you started boxing:

At the tender age of eight, my journey into the world of boxing commenced. Accompanied by Anthony (Crolla), I would faithfully attend the Fox ABC Gym, where my passion for the sport took root. By the time I reached eleven, I had my inaugural bout, fueled by my admiration for Anthony and my unwavering desire to follow in his footsteps.

Favourite all-time fighter:

During my early years, I admired Floyd Mayweather greatly. However, I was also an ardent supporter of James DeGale, who played a significant role in my decision to become a southpaw like him. DeGale remained my favorite fighter throughout. I vividly remember the disappointment I felt when George Groves defeated him.

Best fight you’ve seen:

The most memorable live fight I’ve witnessed is the initial match-up between Carl Froch and George Groves in Manchester. What an incredible battle it was! The electric atmosphere in the venue remains one of my fondest boxing memories. Additionally, Anthony also fought on the undercard.

Personal career highlight:

Last year, I had my first ever performance at the Manchester Arena, where I faced Joe Hardy on the (Mauricio) Lara vs. (Leigh) Wood event. As I prepared for the fight, I didn’t feel nervous the entire week. However, as I caught a glimpse of my picture on the enormous screen, peering through the curtain’s opening, a sudden wave of doubt washed over me, making me question my decision.

Toughest opponent:

I had the opportunity to spar with a handful of highly talented amateurs, including Will Cawley, a former member of Team GB. Will proved to be a formidable adversary, showcasing his toughness in the ring.

Best and worst attributes as a boxer:

I excel in being assertive, as I tend to have a strong hand in various matters. Power is an inherent quality that cannot be taught, in my opinion. On the flip side, my biggest flaw is my inclination towards conflict and excessive involvement. However, there will be occasions where I must learn to heed instructions and follow them accordingly.

Training tip:

Attempting to deceive the hard work and dedication required to succeed is futile. Eventually, your true abilities will be exposed. There are no shortcuts or quick fixes. The additional effort and determination you invest will yield results during the battles. Entering the arena with any uncertainties is not an option. Genuine boxing skills cannot be fabricated.

Favourite meal/restaurant:

I absolutely adore roast dinners, making it my top choice for a favorite meal. As for my preferred restaurant, Almost Famous takes the crown with their absolutely astonishing burgers.

Best friends in boxing:

Every day, I am by Anthony Crolla’s side, as his coach and his brother. Naturally, this includes all of my fellow gym mates as well.

Which other athlete would you like to be:

Roger Federer is an exceptional individual who exudes unparalleled coolness, making him the epitome of grace on this planet.

Last film/TV show you saw:

Kin, on the BBC. It’s an Irish gangster series starring Emmett J. Scanlan.

Who would play you in a film of your life:

Tom Hardy. I think he is a really good actor. I liked him in Legend, where he played both of the Kray twins.

Have you ever been starstruck:

The initial encounter with Floyd Mayweather left me in awe, thinking, “Wow.” However, as time has passed and I’ve grown older, my perception of him has completely changed, and now I simply cannot tolerate him.

Last time you cried:

Following my professional debut, I believe it was simply a mix of relief and overwhelming emotions. Returning to boxing after taking a break, I had experienced some setbacks along the way, but stepping back into the ring felt like a tremendous relief. The post-fight moment was truly beautiful, as the tears that welled up were not of sadness, but rather of pure happiness.

Best advice received:

I learned the hard way that hard work surpasses talent when talent fails to put in the effort. My former amateur coach once imparted this wisdom to me, and it became a valuable lesson. Unfortunately, I experienced defeat against opponents whom I should have easily outperformed after I stopped putting in the same level of hard work.

Worst rumour about yourself:

I want to clarify that I am not Anthony Crolla’s son, but rather his younger brother. He was extremely angry and claimed that I would have been born when he was just thirteen years old. I found his reaction quite amusing.

Something not many people know about you:

I am the biggest Lord of the Rings and Harry Potter fan. I must watch them every month. I watch the Lord of the Rings films all way through at least once a month.

Where do you see yourself in 10 years:

I am determined to continue my boxing career and aspire to be the headlining attraction. My ultimate goal is to secure a British title, at the very minimum. I envision myself remaining somewhat unnoticed by the public eye, yet I possess an unwavering confidence in my abilities to achieve greatness in this sport.

What one thing would you change in boxing:

The issue lies in the political aspect of promoters and the resulting fights that fail to materialize. My sole desire is to witness the most skilled fighters competing against one another. I believe we will witness a surge in up-and-coming fighters being pitted against each other, and this will greatly enhance the sport if it happens.
