During the qualifying round of the 2024 Monaco Grand Prix, we witnessed Haas driver Nico Hulkenberg in full action.
Nico Hulkenberg and Kevin Magnussen have been disqualified from the Monaco Grand Prix qualifying results due to an “inadvertent” rear wing breach on both Haas cars.
Haas have enjoyed a strong start to the F1 2024 season, scoring seven points to establish an early grip on seventh place in the Constructors’ standings.

Hulkenberg and Magnussen were in the midfield mix in Monte Carlo on Saturday, qualifying 12th and 15th respectively at the principality.
Nevertheless, the team’s hard-earned results were put at risk when they were called before the stewards in response to a report filed by FIA technical delegate Jo Bauer. As a consequence, both cars were disqualified from the final classification.
Both Hulkenberg and Magnussen have received approval to participate in the race and are scheduled to commence from the rear end of the starting grid.

The stewards issued a statement regarding Hulkenberg’s disqualification, stating that they had listened to the team representatives of MoneyGram Haas F1 Team Car 27 (Nico Hulkenberg), as well as the FIA Technical Delegate, FIA Single Seater Director, and FIA Single Seater Technical Director. This was in response to a report from the Technical Delegate concerning a violation of Article 3.10.10 h of the Formula One Technical Regulations.
Upon examination, it was discovered by the Technical Delegate that the adjustable positions of the uppermost rear wing element exceeded the maximum limit set under Article 3.10.10.h of the Technical Regulations, which is 85mm.
“The team clarified that the wing flap gap was unintentionally set incorrectly, resulting in this consequence.”
The wing utilized in Monaco was a novel design, being employed for the first time. The previous design had been adjusted to adhere to regulations, ensuring the largest gap was measured from the wing’s center.
The non-compliance occurred because the team had not trained its mechanics to set the gap according to the new design, leading to the largest gap being observed at the extremities of the wing.
It is the Competitor’s responsibility to always adhere strictly to the Technical Regulations. The team’s suggestion that non-compliance did not lead to any performance advantage is deemed irrelevant according to Article 1.3.3 of the International Sporting Code.
“The team openly acknowledged its mistake and admitted the error. Apart from that, the wing fully complied with the Technical Regulations, and the FIA technical team verified their contentment with the team’s explanation for the mistake.”
“Due to the acknowledged violation of the regulations, Car 27 has been disqualified from the Qualifying classification.”
Competitors are advised that they are entitled to file an appeal regarding specific decisions made by the Stewards, as stated in Article 15 of the FIA International Sporting Code and Chapter 4 of the FIA Judicial and Disciplinary Rules, within the designated time frames.
“The Stewards make their decisions in an unbiased manner, separate from the influence of the FIA, and solely rely upon the appropriate regulations, guidelines, and evidence provided.”
Magnussen’s exclusion was confirmed through the issuance of an identical statement.
