Rory McIlroy U.S. Open Odds: Could McIlroy’s Major Drought End This Week?

To put it mildly, the last month and a half has been eventful for Rory McIlroy, at least publicly. But he will head into the 124th U.S. Open as one of the favorites to win the tournament, along with Scottie Scheffler and Xander Schauffele.

At the end of April, McIlroy teamed up with Shane Lowry to win the Zurich Classic of New Orleans. Two weeks later, shortly after celebrating his 35th birthday, he picked up his first individual win of the season, as he shot a final-round 65 to claim a five-stroke win at the Wells Fargo Championship.

Just two days later, it was announced that he had filed for divorce from Erica, his wife of seven years. That same week, he finished tied for 12th in the PGA Championship.

In the following weeks, McIlroy has put together two more solid finishes, a tie for fourth at the RBC Canadian Open and a tie for 15th at the Memorial Tournament last week.

McIlroy revealed on Tuesday that he had resolved issues with his wife and called off the divorce proceedings as he prepared for the upcoming event at Pinehurst #2.

After enduring weeks of intense speculation and rumors about his personal life, it is hoped that the commotion will finally subside. With this in mind, many wonder if this could be the week where he breaks his long-standing dry spell and secures a major title.

2024 Results for Rory McIlroy

  • AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am: tied for 66th
  • The Genesis Invitational: tied for 24th
  • Cognizant Classic: tied for 21st
  • Arnold Palmer Invitational: tied for 21st
  • The Players Championship: tied for 19th
  • Valero Texas Open: 3rd
  • Masters Tournament: tied for 22nd
  • RBC Heritage: tied for 33rd
  • Zurich Classic of New Orleans (team event – paired with Shane Lowry): 1st
  • Wells Fargo Championship: 1st
  • PGA Championship: tied for 12th
  • RBC Canadian Open: tied for 4th
  • Memorial Tournament: tied for 15th

McIlroy has won four major championships and is just one Masters victory away from completing a career grand slam. However, he has not tasted victory in a major since the 2014 PGA Championship.

After narrowly defeating Phil Mickelson by one stroke at Valhalla, McIlroy has achieved a top-five placement in a major tournament on ten occasions, which includes coming in second place at the British Open in 2018, the Masters in 2022, and the U.S. Open in 2023.

During that period, he achieved three FedEx Cup victories (in 2016, 2019, and 2022), significantly increasing his career PGA Tour wins from nine to 24.

At only 35, McIlroy should still have numerous opportunities to contend for major titles. But based on his current form, the U.S. Open represents a great chance for him to become the 16th golfer to win five or more major titles.

McIlroy’s U.S. Open winner odds rank third, with Scheffler (+325) and Schauffele (+1200) being the only players ahead of him. Scheffler and Schauffele emerged as the champions of the first two majors in 2024.

If you believe McIlroy will make a strong start and contend for victory at Pinehurst, there are numerous betting markets you can explore.
