Subriel Matias, the beloved fighter from Puerto Rico, will be making a triumphant return to his home country on June 15th. He will be defending his IBF super-lightweight title against the formidable Liam Paro from Australia.
In the previous month, the individual aged 31 partnered with Matchroom Boxing in a multi-fight co-promotional agreement. This collaboration has further enhanced Eddie Hearn’s collection of talented boxers in the 140-pound weight category.
The upcoming match between Matias and Paro is scheduled to be held at the Coliseo Juan Aubin Cruz Abreu in Manati. This fight marks the second defence of the belt that Matias secured in February 2023 by defeating Jeremias Nicolas Ponce, who retired after five rounds. Following this, Matias had a mandatory defence after nine months against Uzbeki Shohjahon Ergashev, who also retired in the sixth round.
Matías, with a record of 20-1 (20 KOs), expressed his immense enthusiasm in defending the hard-earned title in front of his fans, as stated in a press release by Matchroom.
“The mentality will always be the same and in front of my people I don’t even have to say it, they know me. The Pride of Maternillo.”
Paro, with a record of 24 wins, no losses, and 15 knockouts, recently joined the highly skilled super-lightweight team at Matchroom by signing a promotional contract in 2021. Hailing from Queensland, Paro has proven to be unbeatable thus far, and his most impressive victory came in his latest bout, where he secured a knockout victory over Montana Love in just six rounds.
“I’ve waited my whole life for this opportunity,” said Paro. “Fighter’s fight and I can’t wait to fight the boogeyman in his backyard.”
