Simone Resta will join Mercedes in 2025.
After 23 years under the Ferrari umbrella, Simone Resta has proclaimed “onwards and upwards” as he swaps red for silver having signed as Mercedes’ strategic development director.
While the spotlight has mainly been on the personnel changes within Mercedes, such as the transitions of Lewis Hamilton and Loic Serra, the team is also strengthening their workforce by making a significant addition with the signing of Resta.
Simone Resta bid farewell to Ferrari, next stop Mercedes
For over twenty years, the Italian has been a steadfast member of the Ferrari team, wearing the iconic red. Additionally, he has also spent time with their affiliated teams, Alfa Romeo and, most recently, Haas.
He began his career at Ferrari in 2001 as a senior design engineer, steadily advancing to the position of chief designer. Afterwards, he transitioned to Alfa Romeo and subsequently joined Haas, before eventually making his way back to Maranello.
Mercedes announced back in March that they’d signed Resta as their new Strategic Development Director with May 31st marking his final day with Ferrari.
He acknowledged that on LinkedIn.
“I have had the privilege of spending 23 incredible years at Ferrari, from 2001 to 2024, filled with boundless passion. It has been an extraordinary journey, working alongside exceptional talents that I feel fortunate to have encountered in my unique professional experience.”
I would like to express my sincere gratitude to everyone who had faith in me and to the fans who have consistently shown their unwavering support throughout the years.

According to reports, the Italian will join Mercedes in 2025 following a period of gardening leave.
When he arrives in Brackley, James Allison and Enrico Sampo will be among the familiar faces accompanying him. James Allison, who previously worked for Ferrari from 2013 to 2016, and Enrico Sampo, who was a part of the Scuderia’s simulator department. He will be assuming the position of Head of Performance Software Applications at Mercedes.

Mercedes team principal Toto Wolff recently discussed the reshuffling of personnel within the Mercedes team, bidding farewell to chief aerodynamicist Gioacchino Vino while also welcoming new members from rival teams.
He informed Sky F1 that we are currently in an excellent position, having achieved eight consecutive championships. However, things began to decline afterwards, partly due to the human factor.
“And I’m observing the current development where some individuals desired to depart, while others we had to release, all while simultaneously welcoming new members to our team.”
With James at the helm, his exceptional leadership serves as a constant source of inspiration for our team. His motivation, energy, and competence have propelled us on an upward trajectory.
