Carlos Sainz said it “makes me laugh”, and not in a good way, following a report claiming that he had signed an F1 2025 contract.
Sainz has known before the F1 2024 campaign even got underway that he requires a new home on the grid for next year, following the pre-season announcement that seven-time World Champion Lewis Hamilton will take his seat for F1 2025.

Several doors have closed recently for Sainz, PlanetF1.com having previously reported that he is out of the running for the Mercedes vacancy for the time being, while Red Bull has chosen to retain Sergio Perez under a multi-year contract.
On the eve of the Canadian Grand Prix, a report surfaced stating that Sainz had recently secured a contract for F1 2025, with indications pointing towards his move to Williams. However, Sainz clarified in Montreal that he has not officially signed anything yet.
The report actually caused Sainz to “laugh” because he expressed his worry about the lack of consequences for such claims.
“He informed reporters prior to the Canadian GP that there are no confirmed plans at the moment,” he said.
“I’ve come across media reports where people claim that I’ve already signed. It amuses me to see such things because I can recall similar reports three months ago suggesting that I had signed with Mercedes or Red Bull. Obviously, neither of those possibilities materialized.”
“It’s quite amusing to hear people claiming that I’ve joined Williams. I find it laughable that certain media outlets can make such claims without any consequences. It genuinely concerns me that these false reports can circulate without any support or accountability.”

In an interview with Sky F1, Sainz acknowledged that he has attractive prospects available. However, he expressed difficulty in contemplating the upcoming season due to his Ferrari teammate Charles Leclerc’s recent victory in Monaco and the apparent narrowing of the gap between Ferrari, McLaren, and Red Bull.
However, he is aware that the moment to make his next move is drawing near.
He said, “I have always been honest about the fact that I have numerous options for the future at the moment, and there are some excellent choices available. It’s something I want to carefully consider.”
To be completely honest, it’s incredibly challenging to focus on making decisions about my future when there are opportunities to win both this weekend and in my home grand prix in Barcelona, as well as a chance to win in Monaco. My main priority right now is maximizing this year and ensuring I have a competitive car.
Yeah, at some point, I will have to take the time to review all the available options. Until now, I have relied on my management and team to handle negotiations and present me with the choices. However, when the time comes to make a decision, I will need to sit down and make the final call.
