Since 2021, Yuki Tsunoda has been a driver for the Red Bull junior team.
Denied a Red Bull promotion when the team extended Sergio Perez’s contract, Yuki Tsunoda says he’s happy to stay at RB but he wants “more commitment” from Red Bull.
Earlier this week, Red Bull made an announcement regarding Perez’s new contract extension. The agreement secures his position in the team until the culmination of the 2026 season, spanning a period of two years.

That effectively shut the door on Yuki Tsunoda being promoted to the senior team given Max Verstappen still has another four years to run on his deal.
However, Tsunoda’s association with Red Bull is not over yet, as he expresses contentment with the junior team where he has been a part of for the past four years.
However, he does have a few conditions before signing a new agreement. One of these conditions is the opportunity for advancement in the future, as he believes that there is always a possibility of unforeseen changes with Perez.
Tsunoda expressed his desire for increased commitment from the contract, acknowledging his strong existing commitment with Red Bull and hoping for additional dedication from them.
“I want to ensure that we are aligned with Red Bull before proceeding with the ongoing discussion. Once that is confirmed, we can evaluate further. Overall, I am content with Red Bull.”
“In this kind of environment, anything can happen, so Perez still has to perform even during these two years.”
Therefore, I extend my congratulations to him. Apart from that, I remain dedicated to my own endeavors, constantly striving to prove myself.
“I simply need to continue growing, while also hoping that Red Bull will gain a better understanding of my progress and potential performance. Perhaps this will lead to a possibility of change in the future.”

However, RB is not Tsunoda’s sole alternative.
The Japanese driver, who will be powered by Honda in 2026, mentions that he has mentioned Aston Martin before and reveals that there are “other teams” showing interest in him, which presents potential opportunities in the future.
“He disclosed that the positive aspect is the increasing interest from other teams,” he disclosed. “Additionally, I have received multiple options from them, which are expanding.”
“I consider myself fortunate to be able to enhance my worth, particularly in this fascinating drivers’ market.”
However, my top priority is Red Bull. Ensuring that we are aligned on this is crucial because Red Bull has been an integral part of my life thus far. Without their support, I wouldn’t have achieved as much as I have.
Red Bull’s motorsport advisor Helmut Marko is keen to continue with Tsunoda, saying he is “set” to stay at RB next season with Daniel Ricciardo and Liam Lawson fighting for the second seat.
