Reds vs Braves Predictions & MLB Picks Today (7/24)

The Reds and Braves were supposed to collide last night, however, the game got pushed to this afternoon due to a rain delay. The postponement comes after the Reds opened the series with a 4-1 victory over the Braves on Monday as RHP Hunter Greene led the charge with seven strikeouts across as many scoreless innings.

Despite their recent victory, Cincinnati has not had much success against Atlanta. The Braves have won six out of their last nine matchups with the Reds and have emerged victorious in five out of the last seven meetings at Truist Park.

However, the Braves’ third consecutive loss on Monday highlighted their lack of success. This can be attributed to Atlanta’s struggles at the play, as evidenced by being outscored 19-8 in total during this period.

Simultaneously, it is important to acknowledge that the Reds had lost four consecutive games prior to commencing the week with a win. Only time will reveal whether this win marks the start of a positive streak or if it was merely an unusual occurrence.

Can the Reds win back-to-back games? Or will they revert to their losing ways?

The Reds have also had a tough time winning during daytime games, with a record of 19 wins out of their first 47 early outings, accounting for only 40.4%. On the other hand, the Braves have fared slightly better in this aspect, with a record of 21 wins and 18 losses, giving them a winning percentage of 53.8%. Additionally, Atlanta has been quite successful when playing as the home favorite this season, boasting a winning percentage of 60.4%, ranking them 9th in the league. Conversely, Cincinnati has struggled as the road underdog, with a success rate of only 39.5%, placing them 20th in the league.

As the Braves gear up to take on Reds RHP Frankie Montas, it remains to be seen if their successful streak can persist. Montas, a 31-year-old pitcher, has been struggling this season with a 4.85 ERA in 18 starts, which is one of the poorest performances of his career. In his last two starts, he has given up 12 earned runs, four home runs, and 14 hits in just 11 2/3 innings.

That being said, it is important to mention that Atlanta has a higher winning percentage against left-handed opponents (61.3%) compared to their winning percentage against right-handed opponents (51.5%).

Speaking of the Braves, Allan Winans draws his second start of the season after being recalled from Triple-A Gwinnett on Tuesday. Although he’s looked solid with a 2.74 ERA through 15 minor-league appearances (13 starts), Winans has a 6.03 ERA in seven MLB starts and allowed six earned runs in five innings in a 16-4 loss to the New York Mets on April 11.

Can the Reds batters take advantage of Braves RHP Allan Winans’ MLB struggles?

In a game that could be a toss-up, I’m backing the Braves to win the first doubleheader contest. They’ll be motivated to defeat the Reds following Monday’s loss and they know how to handle the latter based on their recent Truist Park history. Even if Winans struggles again, Atlanta’s bats have enough juice to pull off the victory.

Let’s also back the Over on the 8.5-run total. Even though they only combined for five runs on Monday, six of the last seven Reds-Braves matchups finished with the over as the clubs averaged 11.9 runs along the way. Additionally, Montas’ last three starts saw an average of 12.0 runs scored while Winans’ previous six averaged 14.3.

Put simply, we might witness a significant amount of scoring this afternoon.

Ozuna’s performance in the 2024 campaign has been outstanding, and his recent performance has been even more impressive. In his last 10 games, he has had 38 at-bats and has achieved a slash line of .474/.512/.895 with 18 hits, 12 of which were singles. He managed to finish eight of these games with at least one single, and on Monday, he even recorded two singles in three at-bats. Notably, he has won five out of six games against the Reds in his last six encounters.

This plus-money Ozuna prop is a safe bet considering his 45 singles against right-handed pitchers like Montas this season.
