Ken King Courts Set To Open 

Sandy Beach Park is home to Ken King Courts, a cutting-edge facility offering pickleball and sport courts.

Calgary Sports and Entertainment Corporation, along with the Flames Foundation, Parks Foundation, and the King family, are delighted to declare that the grand opening of Ken King Courts will occur on Friday, July 26, 2024.

Ken King Courts, an innovative pickleball and sport court, is located in Sandy Beach Park in southwest Calgary. In collaboration with the Parks Foundation, these courts aim to encourage sport and recreation among the park’s numerous users. Additionally, Sandy Beach Park is set to undergo several enhancements in the upcoming year, such as the addition of a picnic area, improved parking facilities, and pathway upgrades.

Due to its inclusivity and social advantages for individuals of all ages, pickleball has emerged as one of the most rapidly growing sports in North America. This paddle sport incorporates elements from tennis, badminton, and ping-pong, employing a paddle and a plastic ball equipped with holes.

According to Marilyn King, Ken’s spouse of 48 years, Ken had a strong desire to transform Calgary into the finest city globally. He aimed to establish it as the healthiest city worldwide and actively worked towards enhancing the community. Ken’s contributions can be seen in numerous community development initiatives within this province,” Marilyn King expressed. She further added, “Ken King Courts will be yet another addition to these initiatives, and we feel privileged to witness its inauguration.”

According to Sheila Taylor, CEO of Parks Foundation, the unveiling of the new pickleball courts at Sandy Beach Park is a cause for excitement as it promotes health and inclusivity in one of Calgary’s most stunning parks.

Ken King, hailing from Hanley, Sask., held the position of vice-chairman at Calgary Sports and Entertainment Corporation until his untimely demise. Known for his unwavering dedication and exceptional leadership, Ken was an integral part of the Calgary community. He actively participated in various organizations, including the TELUS Community Board, the Calgary Sport Tourism Authority, the Calgary Airport Authority, and previously served as the chairman of the Calgary Chamber of Commerce. Ken’s fervent desire to transform Calgary into the epitome of healthiness fueled his passion and drive.
