In July 2023, at Silverstone, the filming for the Brad Pitt F1 movie commences with the presence of the APXGP car on the track.
Lewis Hamilton revealed the Brad Pitt-starring F1 movie will feature a key element not often seen in racing films – which is the cars travelling at “real-time, real speed.”
In an effort to portray the film in the most authentic manner possible, the seven-time World Champion has been providing consultation. Brad Pitt and his co-star Damson Idris concluded filming at Silverstone last season, playing the roles of a fictional team called ‘APXGP’.
Lewis Hamilton: Brad Pitt F1 movie to feature cars in ‘real-time, real speed’
Last year, Pitt, Idris, and the film crew were present at Silverstone and the Hungaroring to wrap up filming in a customized Formula 2 vehicle. The car was meticulously designed to resemble a Formula 1 car, allowing them to capture footage for their project.
Pitt is set to portray the character of the fictional driver, ‘Sonny Hayes’, while Idris is expected to take on the role of ‘Joshua Pearce’, his teammate in this Formula 1 movie. The storyline revolves around Pitt’s character making a comeback from retirement to join forces with a promising young talent.
Hamilton has said previously that his job in the movie had been “to try to call BS” on anything he felt was not authentic to the world of Formula 1, and explained that has extended to how the footage has been gathered from filming.
“Racing movies, I feel like it’s very, very hard to capture them,” Hamilton said when appearing on hit YouTube series Hot Ones.

Every year, there’s a filming session where you have to trail a truck equipped with a camera at the rear. It becomes quite challenging to accurately capture the high speed during this process.
In contrast to the usual practice of filming with a truck trailing us at an excessive speed of 200 miles an hour, what you see here is a genuine depiction captured at a slower pace and then accelerated. However, the footage you are witnessing is entirely authentic and occurring in real-time, at its actual speed.
In the past, during the time of Steve McQueen, men would lie on the front of the car with a camera or have a large camera mounted on top of a helmet. Nowadays, we have access to incredible new technology.
I genuinely believe that Joe, or Joseph Kosinski, the director, is going to astonish and impress people with his talent.
The film does not have an announced release date yet.
