Marcus Ericsson under fire for spreading ‘completely untrue’ Williams rumour

Logan Sargeant dismisses Marcus Ericsson’s assertion that he and James Vowles are no longer in communication.

Logan Sargeant has rubbished Marcus Ericsson’s claim that the F1 driver and his Williams team boss James Vowles barely greet each other anymore, saying that’s simply “not true”.

Yet to get off the mark this season, Sargeant has been the topic of many a rumour but they all point to his days in Formula 1 being numbered.

Vowles informed the media at Silverstone that Williams is constantly assessing their driver options as Sargeant has yet to score any points this season and his contract expires at the end of the year.

“He explained that our message to Logan has always been that it’s a meritocracy. He emphasized the importance of continuously earning your place in the sport. This message has remained consistent for him over the past 18 months. Additionally, he mentioned that we are open-minded to new possibilities.”

However, although the speculations about this season potentially being his final one in the sport could still hold some truth, the statement made by former F1 driver Ericsson claiming that Sargeant and Vowles have stopped communicating is false.

During the Viaplay podcast, the Swedish individual mentioned that their American friends informed them about Sargeant’s lack of enjoyment within the team. According to the sources, Sargeant finds the team environment quite challenging. Moreover, it seems that Sargeant and Vowles have reached a point where they no longer communicate or even exchange greetings. Their relationship appears to be completely severed.

When asked about Ericsson’s comment, Sargeant, who is 23 years old, strongly denied it, stating that it was “completely false”.

“He’s known for discussing others without actually engaging in a conversation with me,” he stated. “His opinions hold no significance as they are baseless.”

I had a conversation with James approximately 20 minutes ago.

“Me and James both come here with the utmost priority of doing what is best for the team. We align our efforts and work towards the same goal, ensuring the team’s success. Ultimately, what benefits the team also benefits me.”

“It’s completely untrue.”

When asked if it was uncomfortable reading such things, he replied, “I suppose that’s just how things go. It hasn’t been an easy season with everything that has happened.”

“As a team, we have encountered challenges in certain aspects, which may create an impression of a deteriorating relationship to outside observers. However, we remain committed to our work routine and continuously strive to perform to the best of our abilities.”

The F1 driver has no interest in having a conversation with Ericsson regarding his accusation. He stated, “I have never spoken to him before, and I have no intention of doing so.”

There is a possibility that Sargeant might end up competing against Ericsson in the upcoming season. He has been associated with Prema in IndyCar, who are making arrangements for a two-car IndyCar campaign.

Rene Rosin, the team principal of Prema, revealed: “We are talking, but from the driver side we are not really interested in discussing now much, because I have been concentrating on building up the team in the style that we all want and drivers will be on the second stage.”
