Alpine set for another new team boss with Bruno Famin departure imminent

Bruno Famin first joined Alpine in 2022.

Alpine is set for a third team principal in less than two seasons, with Bruno Famin making way for a new name as team boss.

Alpine’s ongoing revolution will soon bring forth a fresh team boss for the Enstone-based squad, as Bruno Famin steps aside to make room for a new appointment.

Bruno Famin to move aside for a new role at Alpine

Just about a year after Alpine made public the departure of their former team boss Otmar Szafnauer, the Enstone-based team is now preparing to name a replacement for Bruno Famin.

After Szafnauer’s departure, Famin assumed the position of interim team boss. Famin, who previously held the position of vice-president of Alpine Motorsport, later transitioned into the role permanently starting in 2024.

According to sources, Famin is expected to transition to a different position within the Renault organization, making way for an unnamed successor after the summer break. An official announcement is anticipated shortly after the Belgian Grand Prix weekend.

Oliver Oakes, the founder of Hitech GP, is a strongly favored candidate for the position. At 36 years old, he currently manages Hitech’s racing endeavors in Formula 2 and Formula 3. If he is chosen, Oakes would become the youngest team boss in the field.

Just weeks after confirming the hiring of Flavio Briatore as an executive advisor to Renault Group CEO Luca de Meo, Alpine makes this move. Briatore, the former team boss of Renault/Benetton, is now officially part of the team.

An Alpine spokesperson declined to comment on the speculation when approached by PlanetF1.com.

There is currently a state of unrest within the English/French squad due to recent reports. It has been disclosed that the engine department at Viry-Chatillon has been informed that Alpine will not be utilizing the power units developed at the facility when the regulations change in 2026. Rumors suggest that the squad might switch to Mercedes power.

According to sources, employees at the Viry facility are currently experiencing extremely difficult emotional conditions. This news comes after several months of their dedicated efforts in developing a power unit for 2026, which reportedly surpasses the initial expectations.
