Max Verstappen racing in the Red Bull RB20.
Here are the full results from the first and only practice session at the Miami International Autodrome for the Miami Grand Prix.
Max Verstappen dominated the only practice session for the Miami Grand Prix weekend, as he strategically timed his impressive performance. Despite facing difficulties with his harder compound runs, the talented Red Bull driver managed to deliver a remarkable time towards the end.
Max Verstappen sets the pace in Miami
During his session, Verstappen struggled to perform well, as he consistently found himself at the lower end of the timesheet. This was primarily due to minor mistakes on the hard and medium tires, such as running wide at Turn 17 after locking up and experiencing a moment of instability while navigating through the lengthy complex of Turn 6 and 7.
However, after changing to the red-marked soft tires, Verstappen eventually set an impressive lap time of 1:28.595, securing the top position.
Oscar Piastri emerged as the front runner on the soft tyre laps, closely trailing just a tenth behind Verstappen’s pace. Carlos Sainz, driving his Ferrari, followed closely behind, finishing only a hundredth of a second slower.
As Charles Leclerc encountered a harmless spin while exiting Turn 16, the red flags were raised for the other Ferrari. Unfortunately, the tight layout of that particular section posed a challenge for him, resulting in Leclerc’s car sideways on the track as he attempted to recover.
Leclerc’s predicament, caused by an uncooperative clutch and the need for a multiple-point turn, resulted in a brief red flag to remove the Ferrari. Unfortunately, this ruined Leclerc’s sole opportunity for practice before Sprint Qualifying.
