Adrian Newey responds to Lewis Hamilton Ferrari wish in critical F1 future update

Imagine a scenario where Adrian Newey designs a Ferrari F1 car and Lewis Hamilton takes the wheel.

Adrian Newey is “flattered” to hear that Lewis Hamilton wants him to join him at Ferrari, but it would seem that is not on the cards anytime soon.

Just before the Miami Grand Prix, it was declared that the renowned Formula 1 designer, Newey, would no longer participate in Red Bull’s Formula 1 activities starting immediately. However, he will officially depart from the Milton Keynes team after the initial quarter of 2025. During this period, he will dedicate his efforts to Red Bull’s RB17 hypercar project.

Adrian Newey reveals ‘there is no plan’ in life after Red Bull

With an impressive record of 25 titles under Newey-designed F1 machinery, a number that is expected to increase in F1 2024 as Red Bull continues to dominate, it is highly unlikely that any team on the grid would not be interested in enticing him back to the series.

Nevertheless, Newey’s current focus is on savoring life rather than formulating new plans in Formula 1.

Newey told Sky F1 that he and his wife Mandy, along with their dogs, are considering going on a travel adventure, potentially opting for a motorhome. Their plan involves embarking on a journey through France, with the sole purpose of cherishing and embracing the joys of life.

“And perhaps, at some undefined moment in the future, I will find myself standing in the shower, realizing that it’s time for the next exciting journey.”

Currently, a plan is non-existent.

If Newey returns to Formula 1, there is speculation that Ferrari could be his most probable destination. Hamilton, the seven-time World Champion, has confirmed that he would be keen to work with Newey at Ferrari when he joins the team in 2025.

However, although Newey is pleased to hear this from Hamilton, he reiterated his plan to take a hiatus once his time at Red Bull concludes.

Newey expressed his gratitude, stating, “I truly appreciate Lewis’ kind words, it’s very flattering.”

However, currently it’s only about taking a short break and observing what unfolds next.

In theory, Newey’s departure from Red Bull would perfectly align with the opportunity for him to impact another team’s strategy for the upcoming 2026 regulations. These regulations will bring about significant modifications in terms of both chassis and power unit aspects.

When asked if he desires to be involved in this new era, Newey responded by saying, “I definitely find regulation changes enjoyable.”

The current set of regulations represents the most significant change in regulations since 1983, when flat-bottom cars were introduced.

I had a great time tackling the research and intricate design of that car, which was truly challenging. The two cars that followed are essentially improved versions of the original, and the car scheduled for release next year will mark the third iteration of this evolutionary process.

“This series has turned out to be quite remarkable. I was genuinely amazed by the sheer amount of features these cars possess. Initially, I had my doubts when I reviewed the regulations, but I must admit, it has been an enjoyable experience.”

Throughout his F1 career, Newey has been responsible for the design of championship-winning vehicles for Williams, McLaren, and Red Bull.
