All eyes are on the Edmonton Oilers to see if they can force one more final contest when they host the Florida Panthers for Game 6 of the 2024 Stanley Cup Final on Friday, June 21.

After a dominant 5-3 victory against the Panthers in Game 5, the Oilers are just one win away from leveling the series. Edmonton took control of the game right from the start, scoring three consecutive goals and never relinquishing their lead. The remarkable performance of Connor McDavid, who contributed with two goals and two assists, played a crucial role in their triumph.

Will Florida be able to close out this series or will Edmonton manage to extend it to a Game 7?

In addition to providing answers to those questions, this Panthers vs. Oilers Game 6 preview will also present my predictions and top NHL bets for tonight’s match.

Let’s dive in.

Panthers vs Oilers NHL Game 6 Predictions & Pick (6/21)

Tonight, we return to Edmonton as the Oilers aim to achieve the unexpected by leveling the Stanley Cup Final series. Initially, all hope seemed lost following a 0-3 setback against the Panthers. Nevertheless, consecutive victories have restored confidence among Oilers fans.

After witnessing the Panthers’ recent performances, one cannot help but wonder if they can reverse their fortunes. Initially dominating Edmonton with an impressive 11-4 score in Games 1 to 3, Florida has unfortunately suffered a setback by being outscored 13-4 in their last two matches. The performance of goaltender Sergei Bobrovsky has notably declined, with him conceding nine goals out of his last 39 shots, resulting in a save percentage of .769.

In the meantime, Stuart Skinner has transformed into an impenetrable barrier for the Oilers. Although his performance in the playoffs has been unsteady at times, Skinner has risen to the occasion when his team needed him the most. He has successfully saved 61 out of 65 shots, resulting in an impressive save percentage of .938 in the past two games.

Skinner isn’t solely responsible for the progress made. The Oilers’ top players have also played a significant role in reducing the series deficit to 3-2. Notably, McDavid has been exceptional, accumulating eight points (yes, that’s correct) since Game 4.

Oilers superstar Connor McDavid has eight points in his last two games.

The Oilers are on the verge of equalizing the Stanley Cup Final due to their impressive performance on special teams. In the past two games, Edmonton has capitalized on 3 out of 11 power-play opportunities, amounting to a success rate of 27.3%. Meanwhile, Florida has failed to convert any of their 7 power-play chances during this period.

The Panthers have numerous factors working against them, making it difficult to have trust in their performance. In the past two games, they have appeared to be the inferior team, and it is possible that they have allowed this series to slip away from their grasp. At this point, there is a distinct lack of confidence in their abilities.

With that in mind, the Oilers will win tonight and the best bet is to back the Over on the 5.5-goal total. Each of the last three Stanley Cup Final games surpassed tonight’s projected total, averaging a combined 8.0 goals per game.

With the Over being 7-2 in the last nine Panthers-Oilers tilts at Rogers Place, NHL bettors should expect fireworks tonight.

I am truly astonished that this prop is still available at favorable odds. Rodrigues has consistently been the top performer for the Panthers in the Stanley Cup Final, amassing seven points in five games. The Oilers have only managed to keep him from scoring in one game so far, resulting in him hitting the Over in five out of his last six games, including the Eastern Conference Finals.

As I mentioned previously, as long as he maintains his position in the top-6 minutes and power-play time, choosing this Rodrigues prop will always be a safe bet.
