Footage from F1’s cooldown room has revealed the hilarious moment Max Verstappen made a quip about Williams’ spare chassis woes after the Miami Grand Prix.
Williams have endured a troubled start to the F1 2024 season,with the Grove-based outfit one of two teams yet to score a point so far this year.

The team’s troubles hit rock bottom during the Australian Grand Prix when Alex Albon’s crash in the first practice session left Williams with only one car for the rest of the weekend. They were unable to replace the damaged chassis as they did not have a spare for the opening series of flyaway races.
That resulted in the controversial call by Williams team principal James Vowles to withdraw Logan Sargeant, allowing Albon to take over the American driver’s car in Melbourne to enhance the team’s hopes of scoring points.
Albon narrowly missed out on scoring points at Albert Park, finishing in 11th place. Moreover, Williams had a spare chassis available for the first time in the F1 2024 season during the recent Miami race weekend.

Verstappen’s thoughts were evidently lingering on his experiences in Australia as he sat in the cooldown room in Florida. The screen positioned behind the top-three finishers showcased race highlights, notably the unfortunate incident where Sargeant was forced into early retirement by Kevin Magnussen, the Haas driver.
When Sargeant’s car collides with the wall, causing his rear wing to be destroyed, Verstappen jokingly remarks, “Well, at least they can use their spare chassis now, huh?”
F1 fans on Twitter were delighted by Verstappen’s remark, causing a frenzy of reactions.
A fan expressed their admiration, saying, “Max is an absolute savage.”
Someone else commented, saying, “He is incredibly funny and genuine.”
Albon expressed his delight at the spare chassis’s arrival in Miami, stating that Williams can now focus on enhancing performance in the upcoming weeks.
He expressed, “The team has put in a tremendous amount of effort, and it seems like we’ve been trying to catch up throughout the year. But now, with the chassis, things are starting to feel more stable.”

Albon dismissed the idea that having a spare chassis was a source of relief, emphasizing that he wouldn’t let the lack of a safety net affect his driving during the initial weeks of the upcoming season.
He further commented, “Although it may seem unfavorable for me to admit, I do not perceive it as a relief. Frankly, it doesn’t occupy my thoughts.”
“I believe I’ve mentioned this previously, but once you begin contemplating it, you’re already facing a disadvantage. Don’t allow it to affect your weekend.”
