The Las Vegas Aces have an opportunity to climb the WNBA standings in the next few weeks, especially with the return of one of their key players and a series of games they can potentially win. However, their first challenge comes tonight as they face off against the formidable Connecticut Sun at Michelob Ultra Arena (10:00 pm ET, ION).
Chelsea Gray, the star point guard and member of the U.S. Olympic team, returned to the court for her first game of the 2024 season on Wednesday. Playing for the Aces, who currently have a record of 7-6, Gray contributed to their victory over the Seattle Storm with a score of 94-83. Despite only playing for 16 minutes, Gray showcased her skills by distributing seven assists. It is worth noting that Gray had an outstanding performance in the previous season, averaging 15.4 points, 7.3 assists, and 4.0 rebounds per game, while shooting 42.1% from beyond the arc.
After tonight’s game against the Sun (13-1), the Aces will face teams with a below .500 record in nine out of their last ten games before the Olympic break. The only game against a team above .500 is their visit to Seattle on July 10th.
The two-time defending WNBA champions will finally get a chance to improve their position after a string of early losses. Can they kick off this favorable upcoming period with a win against the league’s most dominant team?

Connecticut Sun vs Las Vegas Aces Betting Analysis
Will this be the moment when we witness the ultimate manifestation of the Aces’ full potential?
Despite leading the WNBA in scoring with an average of 87.4 points per game this season, the Aces have struggled to maintain consistency in their performance. Additionally, their defensive efforts have often fallen short, leaving room for improvement on multiple occasions.
After Gray returned on Wednesday, the Aces improved their shooting percentages. They made 40.0% (8 of 20) of their three-point shots and 55.6% (35 of 63) of their overall field goals. Additionally, they recorded 25 assists on their 35 successful baskets. Defensively, they limited the Storm to a 25% (4 of 16) three-point shooting and 44.3% (31 of 70) overall field goal percentage. Furthermore, they forced 15 turnovers.
Both teams will need to put in a strong effort tonight against the Sun, who currently hold the top spot in scoring defense (70.7 PPG) and turnover differential (+4.1) in the WNBA.
While Connecticut may not be as offensive powerhouse as the Aces, Liberty, or Lynx, they started the season strong by scoring an average of 86.6 points per game in their first five games. In their last four games, they have maintained a solid average of 84.0 points per game after being limited to 75 points by the Liberty, which was their only loss of the season.
In order to secure a victory tonight, they might have to strengthen their offensive strategies. It’s no simple task to limit the Aces to less than 80 points. Only the Storm and Atlanta Dream have managed to do so this season. Moreover, looking back to last season, the Aces have scored 80+ points in 45 out of 53 regular season games.
Although Gray may need some time to find her rhythm, the Aces are a fully cohesive team with her back in good health. Her return tonight will undoubtedly be advantageous, not only for the current game but also for the future. The Sun may currently hold the WNBA’s top record, but the Aces will demonstrate tonight why they remain the team to overcome.
