Following a remarkable performance by Sabrina Ionescu, leading to a season-best score and securing a convincing victory against the Los Angeles Sparks on Thursday night, the New York Liberty aims to triumph over the Sparks once more this afternoon in the first game of a consecutive match-up (3:00 pm ET, ESPN).

On Thursday night at Barclays Center, the Liberty (13-3) secured a convincing victory against the Sparks (4-12) with outstanding performances from Ionescu, who contributed 31 points and nine assists, and Jonquel Jones, who added 22 points, eight assists, and seven rebounds. The final score was 93-80.

Following their second encounter with the Sparks within a three-day span, the Liberty find themselves with a short window before their upcoming match against Atlanta tomorrow afternoon (3:00 pm ET, ESPN3). Luckily, they will be granted some much-needed rest following a demanding schedule of four games in six days. Their next game will not take place until June 30, when the Dream visit Brooklyn for an exciting Sunday afternoon showdown.

While the Liberty will be seeking their 10^th win in 11 games, the Sparks will be aiming to snap a five-game losing skid. They haven’t won since upsetting the Las Vegas Aces 96-92 almost two weeks ago and have lost seven straight road games since picking up their lone road win of the season.

The Sparks have only achieved one road victory so far, which was an 88-82 win against the Indiana Fever on May 28th.

Despite their overall struggles and lack of success on the road, Los Angeles has not experienced many blowout losses. Out of their 12 defeats this season, only three have been by a margin of 15 or more points. These include an 87-68 loss against Phoenix on June 2, an 86-62 home defeat to Minnesota on June 5, and a 95-79 loss at Seattle on June 11.

There is a strong chance that they may cover the spread in their rematch against the Liberty, especially if Dearica Hamby can regain her momentum.

This season, Hamby has been performing impressively with an average of 17.7 points per game (PPG), 10.8 rebounds per game (RPG), and 3.4 assists per game (APG). However, in her recent three games, she scored ten, eight, and nine points respectively. It is worth noting that she had scored a minimum of 16 points in each of her first 13 games this season. Additionally, her shooting percentage has dropped significantly in her last three games, with only 10 successful shots out of 32 attempts (31.3%), compared to her impressive 54.1% in the first 13 games.

Could she be returning to reality after a stellar performance in the first month of the season? It’s a possibility, but I believe she will bounce back from her recent slump this afternoon. If she does, I expect the Sparks to cover the significant point spread.
