Imagine a scenario where Adrian Newey meticulously designs a Ferrari F1 car, and the skilled driver behind the wheel happens to be none other than Lewis Hamilton.
Despite talk of Adrian Newey linking up with Lewis Hamilton at Ferrari, Dutch journalist Jack Plooij says Hamilton’s 2025 arrival would actually stop the acclaimed designer from moving to Maranello.
On the contrary, he opines that in the event of Newey’s decision to stay in Formula 1, it would only be in conjunction with a team featuring Max Verstappen, who has been associated with Mercedes.
‘I don’t think he will work anywhere to help Lewis Hamilton win a title’
Newey and Hamilton made a huge impact on the internet by revealing their departure from Red Bull in the early months of 2025, adding to the already eventful year of significant announcements.
Similar to Hamilton, he also agreed to a fresh two-year agreement in 2024 and ’25. However, just like Hamilton, he will depart sooner than initially anticipated.
While Hamilton’s shock announcement was that he’s off to Ferrari, Newey’s – at least for now – is that he is leaving Red Bull with speculation Ferrari could be his next destination.
Over the years, the Scuderia has made numerous attempts to acquire the design guru, but there are now rumors suggesting that they might finally succeed in securing the deal.
Plooij doesn’t see that happening.
The Ziggo Sport journalist predicted that if Newey ever takes up work again, it will be in collaboration with Verstappen.
“I don’t believe he will contribute to Lewis Hamilton’s title win in any way. It seems like he derives immense satisfaction from Max’s performance.”
“Do we continue to ponder 2021? Guess who shed tears of joy at the pit wall? It was Newey!”
“Horner exclaimed with enthusiasm, saying ‘yeah baby, yeah baby!’ Newey, on the other hand, was overwhelmed with joy, shedding tears of intense happiness.”
I have absolute confidence that he will only go to a place if Max is present.
Even though Verstappen is bound by a contract with Red Bull until 2028, rumors persist about a potential switch to Mercedes in 2026.

What Lewis Hamilton and Adrian Newey said about potential 2025 collaboration
Hamilton has a personal desire to collaborate with Newey, the brilliant mind behind cars that have secured an impressive 25 championship titles, with an additional two seemingly within reach alongside Red Bull.
Asked in Miami if he’d like Newey to join him at Ferrari, Hamilton replied: “Very much.
“Adrian has an exceptional history and track record, consistently achieving remarkable results throughout his career by effectively collaborating with teams and leveraging his extensive knowledge. I firmly believe that his addition would be absolutely splendid.”
In my opinion, their team is already outstanding. They are making remarkable advancements and their car has become faster this year. However, I would consider it an honor to collaborate with him.
“If I were to create a list of individuals I desire to collaborate with, he would undoubtedly occupy the highest position.”
Regarding Newey, he expressed feeling “honored” by Hamilton’s words. However, he remains resolute in his decision to take a break from Formula 1.
He expressed to Sky Sports, “To be honest, Lewis’ kind words are truly touching, and I feel deeply honored.”
However, for now, it’s simply about taking a small break and observing what unfolds next.
Mandy, my wife, the dogs, and I are considering going on a trip. Perhaps we’ll opt for a motorhome and explore France, fully embracing the pleasures of life.
“And perhaps, at an indeterminate moment in the future, while standing in the shower, I may declare, ‘Indeed, this shall be my next thrilling endeavor.'”
Currently, there is a lack of any proposed plan.
