Lando Norris has warned Red Bull not to expect his maiden Formula 1 win in Miami to be a one-off, believing McLaren can challenge them for more wins in F1 2024 before taking the “next step”.
Although Norris was fortunate with the timing of the Safety Car in Miami, it is worth noting that Red Bull’s Max Verstappen was also dealing with floor damage. However, when the race restarted, Norris’s success was not a result of luck as he surpassed Verstappen and triumphed in the F1 race with a remarkable 7.6-second lead.
Lando Norris targets more F1 2024 wins and 2025 title
Norris, behind the wheel of the upgraded McLaren MCL38 in Miami, showcased an impressive performance that solidified their progress. However, he sees McLaren’s pursuit of triumphs as an ongoing endeavor rather than a one-time achievement. Norris is confident that McLaren can compete with Red Bull and secure additional victories throughout the season.
Norris expressed his confidence in McLaren’s potential to triumph in more races this year, stating his belief in their ability to challenge Red Bull. The conversation took place at the McLaren Technology Centre during an interview with Sky F1.
“I think we’re looking at an exciting season between us, Red Bull, [and] Ferrari.
In my opinion, there is still progress to be made. We have not reached the same level as they have. While we may be competitive in some races, overall, we have not yet achieved our desired position.
“I believe we remain grounded, acknowledging that there is more work ahead. However, once the McLaren staff have taken a moment to relax this morning, I will encourage them to return to work with a smile, enabling us to continue our relentless pursuit for further progress.”

Stage one for Norris and McLaren is to challenge Red Bull for title glory, not just wins. Looking ahead to 2025, this is their next bold target.
When asked about the possibility of a 2025 title bid for him and McLaren, Norris confidently responded, “Absolutely, next year.”
However, I’m emphasizing that I remain grounded.
“Definitely. I am convinced that we have two exceptional drivers, just as Zak [Brown, McLaren Racing CEO] always mentions. Our team is truly incredible and we are now closer than ever.”
At the start of this year, I expressed my belief in our ability to win races. Now, I want to have the confidence to confidently state that next year, we can strive for even greater achievements and take our performance to the next level.
“However, there is still much work ahead of us, and we are diligently striving to accomplish it.”
The last time McLaren experienced victory in the F1 championship was in 2008, when Lewis Hamilton secured his first of seven Drivers’ titles, which he has won up until now.
