Minnesota Wild Re-Signs Defenseman Declan Chisholm and forward Adam Raska to One-Year Contracts
SAINT PAUL, Minn. – Minnesota Wild President of Hockey Operations and General Manager Bill Guerin today announced the National Hockey League (NHL) club has signed defenseman Declan Chisholm to a one-year, $1 million contract and forward Adam Raska to a one-year, two-way contract ($775,000/$97,500) for the 2024-25 season.
In the 2023-24 season, Chisholm, aged 24 and born on January 12, 2000, had an impressive performance with the Minnesota team. He accumulated a total of eight points, with three goals and five assists. Among these points, five were scored during powerplay situations, with two goals and three assists. Chisholm showcased his shooting skills with 29 shots on goal and exhibited defensive prowess with 36 blocked shots. On average, he played 16 minutes and 52 seconds per game. Standing at 6 feet 1 inch tall and weighing 190 pounds, Chisholm hails from Bowmanville, Ontario. It was on February 17, 2024, during a game against Buffalo, that he scored his first-ever NHL goal. Prior to joining Minnesota, Chisholm played two games with the Winnipeg Jets, where he contributed one assist. He was then claimed off waivers by Minnesota on January 29, 2024. Unfortunately, Chisholm had to sit out the first 24 games of the previous season due to a lower-body injury sustained during training camp.
In the 2022-23 season, Chisholm played 59 games for the Manitoba Moose in the AHL and recorded 43 points (5 goals and 38 assists). Among AHL defensemen, he ranked T-6th in assists and T-14th in scoring. Chisholm then made his NHL debut on Jan. 13, 2022, against Detroit and has since played 33 career NHL games, earning nine points (3 goals and 6 assists) with both the Winnipeg and Minnesota teams in the 2021-22 and 2023-24 seasons. Prior to his professional career, Chisholm played four seasons with the Peterborough Petes in the OHL, collecting 142 points (22 goals and 120 assists) and accumulating 87 penalty minutes in 214 games. He was drafted by the Jets in the fifth round (150th overall) of the 2018 NHL Draft.
Raska, who was born on September 25, 2001, had a successful season with the Iowa Wild last year. In 49 games, he scored seven points (3 goals and 4 assists), accumulated 94 penalty minutes, and took 50 shots. He joined the Minnesota team through a trade with the San Jose Sharks on November 8, 2023. As part of the trade, Minnesota also received a fifth-round pick in the 2026 NHL Draft, while defenseman Calen Addison went to the Sharks. Raska got the opportunity to play in five NHL games with Minnesota during the same season. Standing at 5-foot-10 and weighing 185 pounds, Raska hails from Frydek-Mistek, Czechia. At the start of the 2023-24 season, he played for the San Jose Barracuda in the AHL and participated in seven games, earning four penalty minutes.
Raska, a player drafted by San Jose in the 2020 NHL Draft, has had an impressive career so far. In his three AHL seasons, split between San Jose and Iowa, he has accumulated 32 points (12 goals, 20 assists) along with 276 penalty minutes and 177 shots in 159 games. He has also had the opportunity to play in the NHL, appearing in 13 games over three seasons with both the Sharks and the Wild. Before turning pro, Raska spent two seasons with Rimouski Oceanic in the QMJHL, where he recorded 46 points (25 goals, 21 assists), 67 penalty minutes, and a plus-14 rating in 57 games.
