San Jose Sharks (@SanJoseSharks) General Manager Mike Grier announced today that the club has signed defenseman Sam Dickinson to a standard, entry-level contract.

Grier expressed enthusiasm for Sam, a formidable and agile defenseman, highlighting his impressive two-way skills and exceptional hockey intelligence. He eagerly looks forward to witnessing Sam’s growth and progression within our organization.

In the 2023-24 season, Dickinson, who was 18 years old at the time, had an impressive performance. He recorded a total of 70 points, with 18 goals and 52 assists. His plus-minus rating of plus-56 was second best among all defensemen in the league. In terms of scoring, he finished fourth overall, while tying for fourth place in assists and seventh place in goals.

Due to his outstanding contributions, Dickinson was selected for the OHL Second All-Star Team. He led the London defensemen in points and ranked fifth among all players on the Knights’ offensive end.

During the playoffs, Dickinson continued to shine, accumulating 13 points in 18 games. This included four goals and nine assists. He played a pivotal role in helping London secure a championship victory, contributing six points in a four-game sweep during the championship round.

During the 2024 Memorial Cup, Dickinson recorded a total of four points, consisting of two goals and two assists, across four games. Additionally, he concluded the tournament with an impressive plus-6 rating. In the championship game, Dickinson contributed with a goal and an assist, contributing to London’s position as the runner-up.

Dickinson, recognized for his exceptional performance in his rookie season, was selected for the OHL First All-Rookie Team in 2022-23. During that season, he recorded 23 points, consisting of nine goals and 14 assists, in a total of 62 games. Throughout his career in the OHL, Dickinson has amassed an impressive 93 points, with 27 goals and 66 assists, while maintaining a remarkable plus-61 rating across 130 games.

Dickinson achieved a remarkable feat in international competition by clinching a Gold Medal alongside Canada at the 2023 Hlinka-Gretzky Cup. Throughout the tournament, he showcased exceptional skills, contributing three assists across five games.

The six-foot-three, 203-pound native of Toronto, Ontario was selected by San Jose in the 2024 NHL Draft (first round, 11^th overall).
