Rangers Agree to Terms with Chad Ruhwedel

A one-year contract has been agreed upon between defenseman Chad Ruhwedel and New York Rangers, as announced today by Chris Drury, the team’s President and General Manager.

During the 2023-24 season, Ruhwedel, aged 34, showcased his skills in 52 games, split between the Rangers (5 games) and the Pittsburgh Penguins (47 games). Throughout this period, he managed to contribute significantly, with one goal and three assists, tallying up to four points. The trade that brought Ruhwedel to the Blueshirts occurred on March 8, 2024. Standing at 5-11 and weighing 191 pounds, this defenseman was able to enhance his performance by delivering 90 hits and blocking 44 shots throughout the season.

Having grown up in San Diego, California, this individual has participated in a total of 364 NHL matches across various teams such as the Rangers, Penguins, and Buffalo Sabres. Throughout their career, they have accumulated a total of 13 goals and 36 assists, resulting in 49 points. During the 2021-22 season, Ruhwedel achieved personal bests in goals (4), assists (9), points (13), hits (149), and blocked shots (86).

Ruhwedel, who won the Stanley Cup in 2017, has participated in a total of 25 postseason games throughout his career. Among these, his highest record came in the 2018 Stanley Cup Playoffs, where he played an impressive 12 games.

After completing a three-year collegiate career at the University of Massachusetts-Lowell, where he held the position of alternate captain in his final season, Ruhwedel joined the Sabres in 2013 as an undrafted free agent.
