Highlights! Julian Erosa pulls off upset, chokes out ‘CeeRod’ with seconds on the clock | UFC Denver

Julian Erosa scored another upset finish earlier tonight (Sat., July 13, 2024) at UFC Denver live on ESPN/ESPN+ from inside Ball Arena in Denver, Colorado, when “Juicy J” stopped Christian Rodriguez with a first-round submission (guillotine choke).

Rodriguez stepped into the fight with an impressive 4-1 UFC record and a significant amount of anticipation surrounding him. He had defeated several promising prospects in the early stages of his career, such as Raul Rosas Jr., Cameron Saaiman, and Isaac Dulgarian. Due to these accomplishments and more, there was a high expectation for “CeeRod” to emerge victorious at UFC Denver.

Regrettably for Rodriguez, his path was obstructed by Erosa. Although Erosa may not possess an impressive record in the division, he is remarkably deceptive and capable of ending a fight at any moment. He proves to be a formidable opponent for any featherweight, ultimately overwhelming Rodriguez with more than he could manage.

In the closing moments of the first round, the climax unfolded as the two fighters engaged in a grapple along the cage. Rodriguez managed to secure a dominant position on top, but this presented an opportunity for Erosa to apply a body triangle from guard and attempt a guillotine choke. The submission hold was executed with precision, causing Rodriguez to eventually submit, granting Erosa his fifth successful UFC submission.
