In their upcoming 1:10 p.m. ET clash at Citi Field on Thursday, the New York Mets (46-45) aim to complete a sweep against the Washington Nationals (42-51).

Yesterday, the Mets extended their series lead to 2-0 with a dominant 6-2 victory against the Nationals. Four players from New York achieved multiple hits, with Jose Iglesias leading the pack by going 3-for-4 at the plate and driving in two runners.

Is Washington going to find a way to conclude the series on a positive note, or is New York fated to achieve a victory at home for all the games?

We don’t have much time to spare before the action starts, so let’s dive into my predictions and best bets for the Nationals vs. Mets MLB game.

  • In four out of the last six games, Washington’s total exceeded the Over.

  • In four out of the last seven Nationals-Mets matchups, the total score surpassed the Over line.

Nationals vs Mets Predictions & MLB Picks Today (7/11)

It can be confidently stated that this series has been heavily in favor of one team. So far, the Mets have dominated the Nationals in two games, scoring a total of 13 runs compared to the Nationals’ 7. The Mets have also amassed 23 hits, while the Nationals have only managed 11.

The primary concern for the Nationals lies in their inability to deliver a fully solid performance. On Tuesday, they failed to score until the eighth inning, and last night, they were unable to score after the fifth inning. This level of effort will not suffice against the Mets, who have been one of the MLB’s most successful teams since June.

The Nationals find themselves at the bottom of the Majors with a 25.0% winning percentage since June 24, which is quite different from the situation of other teams. Adding to their troubles, they enter tonight’s game after losing four consecutive matches, with an average deficit of 4.3 runs per game.

Noteworthy is the Nationals’ recent struggle on the road, having lost six out of their last seven games. In contrast, the Mets have been dominant in their home games, boasting an impressive 11-2 record in their last 13 matches.

The Mets have been red-hot at Citi Field throughout the last several weeks.

However, it is not unexpected for Washington to face difficulties in Queens. The Nationals have had a tough time at Citi Field, as they have suffered defeats in six out of their last seven away games against the Mets.

In their pursuit of a clean sweep this afternoon, the Mets have called upon David Peterson to take the mound. The 28-year-old southpaw has shown remarkable improvement in each of his 2024 starts, boasting a 3.00 ERA and a 1-0 record in his last four outings. Impressively, he has struck out 21 batters in the span of 21 innings. It is worth noting that Peterson has a commendable track record against Washington, with a 4-1 record and a 3.44 ERA in 11 career appearances, including 8 starts.

The Nationals are relying on MacKenzie Gore for their upcoming games. Although he has been fairly reliable throughout the year, his recent performances have been inconsistent, evident by his 7.07 ERA in the last three starts. Additionally, he has not secured a win since June 14, which further complicates his situation.

Nationals LHP MacKenzie Gore must break out of his slump if Washington is going to win today.

With the way this series has gone so far, I expect the Mets to win again. Again, Washington has been the worst team in the MLB in recent weeks whereas New York is looking like a legitimate playoff threat. Unless Gore pitches his greatest performance of the season, I see this uphill battle being too much for the Nats to handle.

As far as the best bet goes, let’s just stick with the Mets on the moneyline.

Best Nationals vs Mets MLB Player Prop (7/11)

There are a few Nationals vs. Mets player props that stand out, including David Peterson o4.5 total strikeouts (-120)

In his recent outings, Peterson has shown a consistent performance with these props. He has maintained an average of 5.3 strikeouts in his last four starts, resulting in the Over outcome in three of those games. One notable instance was when he recorded five strikeouts against the Pittsburgh Pirates on July 6. His upcoming challenge lies in facing the Nationals, who currently rank 16th in strikeouts against left-handed pitchers this season.

Considering Washington’s low batting average of .229 against left-handed pitchers (ranking 26th), I anticipate Peterson delivering another strong performance on the mound.
