Bloodbath! Drew Dober suffers one of the worst cuts of all time | UFC Denver

Drew Dober sustained one of the worst cuts of all time earlier tonight (Sat., July 13, 2024) at UFC Denver live on ESPN/ESPN+ from inside Ball Arena in Denver, Colorado, during an eventual third-round TKO (doctor’s stoppage) loss to rising prospect Jean Silva.

Silva stepped in last minute following a victory at UFC 303 just two weeks ago and a weight class increase. The aggressive featherweight fighter delivered a knockout in the second round against Charles Jourdain in his previous bout, and he aimed to replicate that success against Dober by relying on his striking skills. Dober, known for his eagerness to engage, promised an exciting lightweight showdown that fans were eagerly anticipating.

Despite Dober’s initial display of a strong chin and a slight power advantage, Silva’s speed, in-and-out movement, and strategic shot selection proved to be the key factors in inflicting severe damage on Dober’s face. With a series of spinning elbows and left hooks, Silva successfully opened up a deep gash on Dober’s right eyebrow, resulting in a scene of blood scattered all around.

After examining the cut, the ringside doctor allowed the fight to continue, leading to a climactic moment in the third round. Dober’s face was covered in blood, prompting Silva to gesture towards it to get the referee’s attention. Finally, Herb Dean intervened, stopping the fight to prevent Dober from enduring more damage.
