Ellie Scotney vs. Mea Motu purse bid delayed

Both parties involved are optimistic about reaching a last-minute agreement, causing a delay in THE purse bid for Ellie Scotney’s potential world title defense against Mea Motu.

Scotney, the champion of IBF, has been instructed by the organization to defend her title against the mandatory challenger from New Zealand, who holds an impressive record of 19 wins and 7 knockouts. A purse bid has been arranged for July 9.

Despite the smooth progress of discussions, both parties requested an extension for the negotiation period to eliminate the need for a bid. Surprisingly, the IBF granted the extension on the day of the bid.

Matchroom CEO Frank Smith told Boxing News: “The purse bid has been delayed by 10 days.

There is a possibility of reaching an agreement, as both parties have expressed their desire for it. We are optimistic about the outcome and confident that we can come to a resolution.

Smith stated that Matchroom’s plans for staging the fight in the UK are uncertain at the moment, as they are currently in the process of working through the details.

“I’m aware that Eddie had a meeting with Ellie and Shane McGuigan recently. Hopefully, we’ll receive updates on that matter in the near future.”

On April 13, Scotney, with a record of 9-0, became the unified super-bantamweight champion by acquiring the WBO title from Segolene Lefebvre, thus expanding her collection of championship belts.

The Catford ace, who aspires to become the undisputed champion, appears likely to defend her title against her IBF mandatory challenger first.

In April, Motu achieved a second-round stoppage victory over undefeated Noppaket Srisawas, and now he is moving forward with his recent triumph.
