By Andrew Fairley
Why did you start boxing and how old were you?
Started about 10 years old, my dad wanted me to learn to look after myself and keep fit and healthy growing up. It was never to compete.
Who is your favourite all-time fighter and why?
I couldn’t pick one. I’m too greedy and like too many people and styles.
What is the best fight you have seen, either live or on television?
Hagler vs Hearns on YouTube, a three-round war.
What is your best achievement in boxing so far?
Winning the national championships as a junior and boxing for England.
Who is the toughest opponent you’ve faced and why?
I boxed a very good Welsh lad for England, he was two steps ahead of me all night.
What are your strengths and weaknesses as a boxer?
Strength is probably my work ethic, [weakness] would be I can be too much of a perfectionist at times and it can get me down.
What is your best piece of advice for boxing training?
Attempting to find shortcuts is futile as they do not exist.
What is your favourite meal and restaurant?
I just love eating so I couldn’t pick one; could be anywhere in the world, I wouldn’t starve. I just love food, I’ll eat and try anything once.
Who are your best friends in boxing?
My dad Ricko, been my coach since the start. The amount of hours we have spent training and just travelling to and from place to place for competition or training is unbelievable. He puts in just as much work as I ever have.
Which other athlete would you like to be?
Usain Bolt, bet he has some stories to tell.
What is the one thing you would change about professional boxing?
Having to run around selling tickets, nightmare stuff.
Which actor would play you in a film of your life?
Jason Statham with a wig. Bit of action with him.
Have you ever been starstruck? If so, who was the star?
Never starstruck but got a selfie with that LadBaby couple at a boxing show once. My mum loved them so had to send her a picture.
When was the last time you cried, and why?
Last month or so, just personal things that happen in life.
What is the best advice you’ve ever received?
If you keep working hard, you have every chance to make it.
What is the worst rumour you have heard about yourself?
Not a rumour as such but you hear a lot of stories about yourself, about what you’re like and who you are. Scunthorpe is a small town.
Tell us something not many people know about you.
I’m a massive home boy, would choose being sat around my family at home over being anywhere else.
