In the third game of their four-game series at Rogers Centre, the Houston Astros (43-42) aim to prevent consecutive losses as they take on the Toronto Blue Jays (39-46) on Wednesday.

In a commanding start to the series, the Blue Jays secured a tremendous 7-6 victory against the Astros, effectively putting an end to their opponent’s three-game winning streak. George Springer played a pivotal role in this triumph, unleashing a three-run home run during the third inning. Additionally, Jose Berrios showcased his skills, earning his eighth win of the season with a remarkable five-inning performance.

Will Houston be able to recover from yesterday’s loss? Alternatively, will Toronto secure another victory, leaving the Rogers Centre crowd satisfied?

Astros vs Blue Jays Predictions & MLB Picks Today (7/3)

Despite falling short last night, there are ample reasons to have faith in the Astros’ ability to bounce back tonight.

To begin with, despite last night’s loss, there were some positives to take away. Despite not having things go their way, the Astros managed to outscore the Blue Jays 6-0 in the last five innings of the game, which gives them some momentum going into tonight’s matchup. It is worth noting that Toronto failed to get a single hit after Addison Barger’s double in the fourth inning.

The Jays’ win could potentially be considered a fluke. Toronto has been performing poorly with a 4-10 SU record in their last 14 games and they haven’t won back-to-back games since June 15/16, which was almost a month ago.

In contrast, the Astros have an impressive 11-3 record in their past 14 games and have emerged victorious in five of their last seven away games. Furthermore, Houston has experienced consecutive losses only once since May 30th, displaying a remarkable 8-1 record with an average run margin of plus-2.9 in the nine games that followed.

Will the Astros bounce back from yesterday’s loss?

Although Houston suffered a loss yesterday, they have consistently outperformed Toronto in their recent encounters. The Astros have dominated the Blue Jays, outscoring them 28-10 in their last five matches and securing three victories in the process.

In their last seven American League matchups, the Astros have a solid record of 6-1. On the other hand, the Blue Jays have struggled on Wednesdays, losing six out of their eight previous games.

In Ronel Blanco’s 15 starts, Houston has shown a strong performance, winning 11 out of those games. Additionally, Blanco, a 30-year-old right-handed pitcher, has only given up more than two earned runs in one of his seven road starts. He has maintained an impressive record of 5 wins and 1 loss, with a remarkable 2.36 ERA and 1.095 WHIP.

The performance of Yusei Kikuchi with the Blue Jays has taken a negative turn. Despite a strong start to the season, the 33-year-old experienced a decline by giving up 13 earned runs and five home runs on 19 hits in his last 11 innings (resulting in a worrying 10.64 ERA).

The Blue Jays need LHP Yusei Kikuchi to break out of his slump if they want to beat the Astros this evening.

Taking the above into account, I recommend backing an Astros victory. The Blue Jays are too inconsistent to trust, especially with Kikuchi playing his worst baseball of the year. Houston is more than talented enough to exploit the southpaw’s struggles en route to win No. 44.

Furthermore, you should take the Astros to cover the run line. Again, they’ve won eight of their last nine games following a loss, picking up each of those wins by at least two runs. Considering how the Blue Jays rank dead last with a 4-9 ATS record as the home underdog in 2024, the Astros should win this tilt by a decent margin.

Best Astros vs Blue Jays MLB Player Prop (7/3)

Considering his exceptional performance, I am inclined to choose Jose Altuve to have over 1.5 total bases (+100) as the top player prop for tonight’s Astros vs. Blue Jays game.

Since the middle of June, the previous AL MVP has displayed an outstanding performance. Altuve’s performance in his last nine games has been remarkable, with a .400 batting average, .429 on-base percentage, and .625 slugging percentage across 40 at-bats. Throughout this stretch, he has accumulated 16 hits, three doubles, and two home runs. Additionally, he has amassed a total of 25 bases (2.8 per game), and has successfully met or exceeded expectations in this category seven times. This includes his performance in the last two games as well.

Given that the Over has a 7-3 record in his last 10 matchups against the Blue Jays, it is reasonable to anticipate another successful evening from Altuve.
