FRISCO, Texas — The Dallas Stars Hall of Fame Selection Committee announced today their election of Brenden Morrow and Jim Lites as the 2024 class of the Dallas Stars Hall of Fame. Morrow was selected as part of the Player Category and Lites was selected as part of the Builder Category. Now in its third year, the Dallas Stars Hall of Fame seeks to recognize players and/or staff members who have positively impacted the Dallas Stars franchise in such a way that their contributions cannot be overlooked.

Morrow and Lites will be officially inducted during Dallas Stars Hall of Fame Weekend Oct. 19-20. The two-day celebration will begin with a Western Conference Final rematch against the Edmonton Oilers on Saturday, Oct. 19 at American Airlines Center (3 p.m. CT). Both inductees will participate in a ceremonial puck drop prior to the game. The weekend will be capped off by the third annual Dallas Stars Hall of Fame Induction Gala presented by Truist at Gilley’s Dallas South Side Ballroom on Sunday, Oct. 20, which will honor the inductees and feature a live concert performance presented by Grey Goose with a musical artist to be named at a later date. All proceeds from the event will benefit the Dallas Stars Foundation. Tickets for the Dallas Stars Hall of Fame Induction Gala presented by Truist will be announced at a later date.

Dallas Stars President and CEO Brad Alberts joyfully declared the inclusion of Brenden Morrow and Jim Lites into the esteemed Dallas Stars Hall of Fame class of 2024. Alberts praised Morrow for his unwavering dedication and tenacious performance on the ice, which epitomized the essence of a true Dallas Star. Furthermore, Morrow’s exemplary leadership as the team captain set an unparalleled benchmark for all who wore the coveted C in Dallas.

Alberts emphasized the immense significance of Jim’s contributions to the franchise throughout the past forty years. He asserted that without Jim’s exceptional leadership and guidance, the franchise would not have achieved its current position. Jim’s unwavering dedication to establishing a remarkable business infrastructure has set the benchmark for NHL teams in the Southern markets.

About Brenden Morrow:

Dallas originally selected Morrow in the first round (25th overall) of the 1997 NHL Draft. He spent 13 out of his 15 NHL seasons playing for the Stars, where he served as team captain for seven seasons from 2006 to 2013. This made him the third-longest tenured captain in Dallas Stars history. Throughout his time with the franchise, Morrow played in 835 regular-season games and accumulated 528 points (243 goals and 285 assists) with a +102 plus-minus rating. In terms of all-time franchise leaders, he ranks sixth in games played, shares ninth in goals, ranks 10th in points, and 13th in assists. Additionally, Morrow ranks fourth in penalty minutes and game-winning goals, fifth in plus-minus, and shares seventh in power-play goals and ninth in shorthanded tallies. In the postseason, he appeared in 78 games for the franchise and recorded 42 points (17 goals and 25 assists) along with 100 penalty minutes. Among all-time franchise leaders in the playoffs, Morrow’s three overtime goals are tied for first place with Steve Payne and Joe Nieuwendyk.

About Jim Lites:

While working with the Stars, Lites led the team to victory in nine division championships, three Western Conference championships, two Presidents’ Trophies, and the 1999 Stanley Cup. He actively contributed to the creation, design, construction, and ongoing management of the American Airlines Center and Children’s Health StarCenter ice facilities. Lites also played a crucial part in recruiting General Manager Jim Nill, acquiring the Texas Stars of the AHL, and securing the operating lease of H-E-B Center at Cedar Park in Cedar Park, Texas.

The Dallas Stars Hall of Fame acknowledges individuals, whether players or staff, who have made significant and indelible contributions to the Dallas Stars Hockey Club. The Hall of Fame is divided into two categories: Player (Skater/Goaltender) and Builder (Executive Level Staff or Coach). Each election period allows for the selection of one Player and one Builder, but it is not mandatory to fill both positions during a given period.

In order for players to be considered, they need to exhibit outstanding qualities in terms of their playing skills, sportsmanship, character, and their contributions to the Dallas Stars Hockey Club. On the other hand, builders are assessed based on their exceptional abilities as coaches, managers, executives, or in any other significant off-ice role. Additionally, builders are evaluated on their sportsmanship, character, and the contributions they have made to both the Dallas Stars Hockey Club and the sport of hockey as a whole.

The Dallas Stars Hockey Club automatically inducts any player whose number has been retired into the Dallas Stars Hall of Fame, without the need for the Selection Committee’s consideration. Similarly, all owners of the Dallas Stars Hockey Club are automatically included as Builders in the Hall of Fame, without requiring evaluation by the Selection Committee.
