Senators sign goaltender Mads Sogaard to two-year contract

Mads Sogaard, the goaltender, secures a two-year contract with the Senators.

OTTAWA – Ottawa Senatorspresident of hockey operations and general manager Steve Staios announced today that the club signed goaltender Mads Sogaard to a two-year contract. The first (two-way) year of the contract will carry an annual value of $775,000 in the National Hockey League and $225,000 in the American Hockey League. The second (one-way) year of the contract holds an annual value of $775,000.

Sogaard, a native of Aalborg, Denmark, stood tall at 6’7″ and weighed 212 lbs during the 2023-24 season. He mostly played for the Belleville Senators, Ottawa’s AHL affiliate, where he excelled in various statistical categories. Sogaard led the team’s netminders with 32 games played, 18 wins, two shutouts, a goals-against average of 2.45, and a save percentage of .916. Additionally, he made appearances in six NHL games for Ottawa and secured his 10th NHL victory by stopping 22 out of 25 shots in a 5-3 triumph against Philadelphia on January 21st.

“Mads’ progress in his development is ongoing,” stated Staios. “Having acquired substantial playoff experience in Belleville last spring, along with an impressive regular season, he has gained added confidence as a professional goalie. The upcoming season will play a critical role in advancing his career.”

In the 2019 NHL Draft held in Vancouver, Sogaard was chosen as the Senators’ second second-round pick, securing the 37th overall position. As the 2024-25 season approaches, Sogaard holds the remarkable title of being the B-Sens’ all-time leader in games played, with a total of 96 matches, and wins, with an impressive 50 victories.
