Jets sign Heinola to a two-year contract extension

Heinola has agreed to a two-year contract extension worth $800,000 per year.

In a statement released on July 15, 2024, the Winnipeg Jets Hockey Club disclosed that they have reached an agreement with defenceman Ville Heinola for a two-year contract extension. The contract carries an average annual value of $800,000 in the NHL.

Last season, Heinola, aged 23, showcased his skills in 41 games for the Manitoba Moose of the AHL, amassing an impressive 27 points (10 goals, 17 assists) and accumulating 24 penalty minutes. Hailing from Honkajoki, Finland, he continued to contribute to the Moose’s success by providing two assists and recording four penalty minutes in two playoff games.

Heinola, who was selected by the Winnipeg Jets with the 20th overall pick in the 2019 NHL Draft, has been with the team for four seasons and has played in a total of 35 games. In these games, he has contributed 11 points consisting of 1 goal and 10 assists, along with accumulating 18 penalty minutes. Additionally, Heinola has an impressive track record in the AHL playing for the Moose, with 102 points (23 goals and 79 assists) and 92 penalty minutes across 152 games. Among Manitoba defencemen, his 102 points rank him eighth all-time. During his time in the postseason, he has participated in 11 games for Manitoba, recording 8 points made up of 1 goal and 7 assists, while also accumulating 8 penalty minutes.

Heinola has proudly represented Finland on multiple occasions at the international level. He showcased his skills at three World Junior Championships (2019-21), accumulating an impressive 13 points (1 goal, 12 assists) and 14 penalty minutes in 23 games. He played a pivotal role in securing the gold medal for Finland at the 2019 World Juniors and also contributed to the team’s bronze medal victory in the 2021 edition.
