The 2024 NFL season is less than two weeks away, making it the perfect time to preview each of the league’s eight divisions. While each grouping has its fair share of rivalries, few boast the intensity that the NFC East does on an annual basis.
One of the NFL’s most intense divisions is comprised of the Dallas Cowboys, New York Giants, Philadelphia Eagles, and Washington Commanders. Whenever these teams face each other, the players and fanbases are filled with nothing but animosity and hostility. It’s evident that this trend will persist throughout the upcoming fall season.
It’s never too early to get involved with NFL divisional odds, as most online sportsbooks are now offering them. In this NFC East preview, I will share my predictions and top bets for the division. Let’s delve into the details.

NFC East 2024 Preview
Philadelphia Eagles (-110)
As of July 16th, BetOnline considers the Philadelphia Eagles as the top contender with -110 odds to win the NFC East. Should they emerge victorious, it would be the Eagles’ sixth division championship since the 2010 NFL season.
The Eagles’ 2023 season concluded unexpectedly as they suffered a 32-9 defeat to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in the Wild Card Round. This devastating loss prompted general manager Howie Roseman to become significantly involved in the offseason, and his active participation proved fruitful.
Philadelphia now heads into the 2024 campaign with an absolutely stacked roster. In addition to the usual suspects on offense (Jalen Hurts, A.J. Brown, DeVonta Smith, etc.), the Eagles brought in elite running back Saquon Barkley, as well as pass-catchers Parris Campbell and C.J. Uzomah. That’s without mentioning defensive additions like Bryce Huff, Devin White, and Chauncey Gardner-Johnson.
Is veteran RB Saquon Barkley enough to help put the Eagles over the top?
After all the moves the Eagles have made this spring/summer, it becomes difficult to doubt them. They not only emerge as the top contenders to win the NFC East but also share the third-best odds (+1200) to win Super Bowl LVIX on BetOnline.
In comparison, the Cowboys are ranked 10th with odds of +1800.
To put it differently, the NFC East currently belongs to the Eagles. With the highest level of talent among the four teams, they should be in a good position as long as their key players meet expectations. If everything goes according to plan, it wouldn’t be unexpected to see Philadelphia competing for another Super Bowl championship in February.
Dallas Cowboys (+150)
Despite winning the NFC East twice in the past three seasons, including 2023, the Dallas Cowboys find themselves with the second-best chances of winning the 2024 title.
Despite having a wealth of elite talent, it can be argued that the Cowboys’ current roster is not as strong as last year’s. This is mainly due to Jerry Jones’ lack of urgency during the offseason, which allowed other teams to acquire top-tier free agents while America’s Team remained inactive for weeks. Although Dallas had a successful draft that partially compensated for their underwhelming free agency performance, it doesn’t change the fact that the team still suffered losses, resulting in a less formidable lineup.
- Tony Pollard, RB
- Stephon Gilmore, CB
- Tyron Smith, LT
- Dorance Armstrong, DE
- Tyler Biadasz, C
- Dante Fowler, DE
No matter how you slice it, that’s a lot of talent to lose and it wouldn’t be shocking if the Cowboys are worse because of it. That’s without mentioning how the coaching staff also underwent changes with Mike Zimmer replacing Dan Quinn as the defensive coordinator. Time will tell if the shake-up pays off after Dallas’ defense collapsed in the 48-32 loss to the Green Bay Packers in the postseason.
Can the Cowboys win the NFC East? It’s not impossible, as they are currently ranked among the top 10 teams in the league. However, it will require favorable circumstances for them to surpass the Eagles who are currently ahead.

New York Giants (+1000)
Once again, New York Giants fans are left pondering whether their team will finally make significant progress in the upcoming year.
Since their victory in the Super Bowl over a decade ago, the Giants have been consistently terrible. They have only made it to the NFL playoffs once in the past 12 years and haven’t claimed the NFC East title since 2011. Additionally, they have failed to win more than six games in eight of the last 10 seasons, highlighting the extent of their struggles.
Can the Giants avoid finishing with yet another losing record in 2024?
Unfortunately, the Giants’ outlook isn’t that promising. Sure, they added sixth-overall pick Malik Nabers to the offense, but Daniel Jones is still, well, Daniel Jones. It doesn’t help that the offensive line in front of him is atrocious, as well as the fact that New York replaced long-time starting RB Saquon Barkley with Devin Singletary, who’s yet to hit the 900-yard mark in five seasons.
Although the defense is not the worst in the league, the offense raises numerous concerns. The Giants are expected to be a 6/7-win team once more, leaving their fans repeating the phrase “There’s always next year!” yet again.
Washington Commanders (+1000)
The Washington Commanders possess the potential to either surpass expectations or conclude their NFC East journey at the bottom.
The Commanders are facing a challenging situation as they enter the season. Coming off a disappointing 4-13 campaign, they have only managed to average 6.3 wins over the past three seasons. Additionally, their new head coach, Dan Quinn, has a somewhat concerning record of 14-23 in his recent NFL coaching experience. It will be intriguing to observe whether Quinn has gleaned valuable lessons during his tenure as an assistant coach for the Cowboys.
However, there have been improvements made by the team on both offense and defense during this offseason. The addition of Austin Ekeler to the backfield has created a formidable rushing duo alongside Brian Robinson Jr., making them one of the league’s best. Additionally, wide receivers Terry McLaurin, Jahan Dotson, and Dyami Brown are poised to make significant progress, while the offensive line has also shown improvement. Furthermore, the defense has seen positive changes with the acquisitions of Dante Fowler and Dorance Armstrong, both of whom have followed Quinn from their previous organization.
At the end of the day, the Commanders’ chance of success likely hinges on rookie QB Jayden Daniels. If the 2024 second-overall selection can live up to his potential, Washington could be a dark horse in the NFC. But if he isn’t ready and the team is forced to start Marcus Mariota at any point, it’ll likely be another last-place finish for Quinn’s squad.
NFC East 2024 prediction: Philadelphia Eagles (-110)
The NFC East is dominated by the Eagles, who have an impressive lineup of top-notch players across various positions. While the Cowboys might be the only team with a chance to give them a tough competition, it seems unlikely considering the significant departures they have experienced in recent months.
