Fernando Alonso pointed to the other Spaniard on the Formula 1 grid after a Lando Norris name sign received a makeover following the Euros 2024 final.

A viral post on X (previously known as Twitter) reveals an engraved sign featuring Norris’ name and the result “2-1 VIVA España!!”. The artwork on the sign has gained significant attention.

According to the post, Carlos Oñoro, the manager of Ferrari’s Carlos Sainz, who previously raced with Norris at McLaren from 2019-20, was the one behind the tease.

Alonso, the other Spanish driver in the F1 grid, was asked if he was responsible, but he redirected the focus towards the Sainz camp.

Alonso denied being the one responsible for the prank when asked during a pre-Hungarian GP press conference.

“There happens to be another Spanish driver, but definitely not me.”

Spain had a remarkable weekend filled with sporting triumphs as their talented 21-year-old tennis prodigy, Carlos Alcaraz, successfully defended his Wimbledon title by defeating Novak Djokovic in straight sets.

When asked about his level of enjoyment, Alonso responded, “Without a doubt, the entire nation had a great time.”

“We’ve had an amazing journey in tennis, particularly with Rafa Nadal who dominated the sport for two decades. And now with Carlos, we can confidently say that we’re in good hands. Carlos is incredibly young and talented, and his presence on the court is bringing joy to the entire nation.”

“And in football, of course, the tournaments only happen every four years, or every two years with the World Cup. The match on Sunday was really enjoyable, and I had a strong desire to win because returning to the race weekend with the mechanics and team in the garage creates a much better atmosphere.”

Norris is providing a British victory over Spain so far in the F1 2024 standings, his 171 points placing him P2 in the Drivers’ Championship, with Sainz on 146 and Alonso 45.
