Canucks Agree to Terms with Goaltender Artūrs Šilovs on a 2-Year Contract

Vancouver, B.C. – Vancouver Canucks General Manager Patrik Allvin announced today that the club has agreed to terms with goaltender Artūrs Šilovs on a 2-year contract.

Allvin expressed his gratitude for Artūrs’ significant assistance last year and acknowledged his ongoing growth and development as a goalie. Allvin also mentioned their expectations for Artūrs to compete for a full-time position with the main team during training camp. He assured that their group will continue to support Artūrs, helping him enhance his skills and equipping him with the necessary tools to progress further in his young career.

In the 2023.24 season, Šilovs, aged 23, played in 34 regular season games for the Abbotsford Canucks (AHL). During this time, he achieved a record of 16 wins, 11 losses, and 6 ties, maintaining a 2.74 goals against average and a .907 save percentage. Additionally, he participated in four regular season games with the Vancouver team, boasting an undefeated record of 3 wins and 1 tie, along with a 2.47 goals against average and an .881 save percentage. Furthermore, Šilovs made his debut in the NHL playoffs, playing in 10 games for Vancouver and attaining a record of 5 wins and 5 losses, accompanied by a 2.91 goals against average and an .898 save percentage.

The goaltender, standing at 6’4″ and weighing 203lbs, has played in a total of 89 regular season games in the AHL over the course of four seasons. During this time, they achieved a record of 45 wins, 30 losses, and 11 ties. Their goals against average stood at 2.62, with a save percentage of .906. Additionally, they have participated in nine regular season games in the NHL, where they maintained a record of 6 wins, 2 losses, and 1 tie. In the NHL, their goals against average matched 2.62, with a save percentage of .898. In AHL playoffs, they took part in two games, resulting in a record of 1 win and 1 loss. Their goals against average in the playoffs was 2.85, accompanied by a save percentage of .914.

The individual hailing from Riga, LVA has proudly showcased his homeland Latvia on various notable occasions, such as the 2019 U18 World Championships, the 2022 and 2023 World Championships. At the 2023 tournament, he was bestowed the honor of being the Best Goaltender and Most Valuable Player. His remarkable performance contributed to Latvia’s historic achievement of securing their first-ever medal at the event.

In the 2019 NHL Entry Draft, Šilovs was chosen by the Vancouver Canucks in the sixth round with the 156th overall pick.
