Tyler Denny, the reigning middleweight champion of Europe, along with his challenger Felix Cash, have both confidently foreseen knockout victories for themselves on the upcoming Saturday night (June 22).
Denny is set to defend his title for the first time against Matteo Signani in Matchroom’s main event at Resorts World Arena, Birmingham.
After a hiatus of 18 months, Cash is returning to the boxing ring, following his previous victory against Celso Neves on the undercard of Josh Warrington-Luis Alberto Lopez. During his absence, Denny, with a record of 18-2-3 (1 KO), has been thriving, consistently participating in matches broadcasted on Sky Sports. Notably, he defeated Bradley Rea, Brad Pauls, Macaulay McGowan, and Signani in successive encounters, showcasing his growing strength and skills.
Denny announced at the concluding press conference today, “He is destined to be thoroughly defeated on Saturday.”
I sympathize with him, but this is the nature of the game we are involved in. He needs to make up for lost time because he was supposed to be contending for world titles after defeating Denzel Bentley.
Cash, however, interjected, stating, “I’ll swiftly remove you from the equation and promptly return to the action.”
Denny responded, “He won’t do it. Just disregard him. He’s becoming increasingly enthusiastic and consumed with thoughts about the weigh-in, struggling with the weight and getting all worked up.”
The challenger who had never been defeated proceeded to question Denny about his desire for Cash to fail to meet the weight requirement of 160lbs. Although the conversation eventually died down, Denny remains confident that he can secure his second consecutive victory by knockout, having only achieved one win thus far.
Cash, according to Denny, is an excellent fighter.
Despite our differences, I hold a deep admiration for him as a skilled fighter. Boxing is a sport that exposes any deceitful tactics. While he may have been occupied with other endeavors in recent months and years, I have dedicated myself to intense training in the gym. The results of my hard work will become evident as I dismantle him and emerge victorious. And I will remain the champion.
Instead of opting for a preliminary match to ease back into the ring before a more significant bout, Cash, with his impressive record of 16-0 (10 KOs), has decided to jump right into the ring with an opponent who currently holds the advantage of momentum. This decision showcases Cash’s immense confidence in himself and his trust in his new trainer, Adam Booth.
Cash expressed his anticipation for Saturday night, eagerly awaiting the opportunity to seize the European title and compensate for the time that has been lost.
“I am confident that I will be able to defeat him before the scheduled time. Once he enters the ring, I will assess his performance in the initial rounds and then proceed to dominate. I firmly believe that the fight will not last until the end.”
In recent years, the 160lbs division has been home to some of the most legendary fighters in the sport. However, in 2024, there seems to be a lack of star-power. Champions Janibek Alimkhanuly, Carlos Adames, and Erislandy Lara are not widely recognized names who can demand massive paychecks. Nonetheless, the winner of Saturday’s fight will inch closer to a chance at facing one of these champions. History has shown us that claiming the European title can open doors to a world title opportunity.
Cash expressed his desire to fight for one of the belts, stating, “That’s our goal. I aspire to participate in significant battles, and I’m confident that I will have that opportunity after this upcoming fight.”
