Jake Paul is taking a gamble with his combat sports career.
But he’s also gambling on Mike Tyson’s future, as well. Paul and Tyson are scheduled to collide atop the Netflix-streamed boxing card on Fri., Nov. 15, 2024, at AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas.
If Paul loses to Mike Perry in the “Fear No Man” pay-per-view (PPV) main event on Sat. night (July 20) in Tampa, Fla. (stream it here), there’s a pretty good chance the Tyson bout goes up in smoke.
“This is what I do, I’m here to fight,” Paul said at the “Fear No Man” press conference (watch it here). “I love to take risks and do big events. Mike Tyson called and was concerned about this fight jeopardizing the biggest fight of my career. That’s what puts the pressure on me, and I love that. I’m not slowing down for anybody. Mike Perry is not going to be the one to stop me. I’m on a path to the world championship. I’m not slowing down for anybody.”
Tyson was Paul’s original opponent for this weekend’s boxing spectacle but was forced to withdraw after suffering a debilitating ulcer flareup. “Iron” is expected to make a full recovery and be ready to roll long before November.
“Tyson was concerned about me taking this fight,’’ Paul said during the “Fear No Man” open workouts (watch them here). “He’s like, ‘What is Jake thinking? This guy Mike Perry is a killer.’ So he had some concerns. But Tyson, my message to you is don’t worry. I’m going to put this guy to sleep. This is a Mike appetizer and you’re next.’’
We’ll find out this weekend in “The Sunshine State.”
