Junto Nakatani, one of the top pound-for-pound boxers, showcased his dominance in a spectacular match on July 20, 2024, in Tokyo, Japan. As the reigning WBC bantamweight champion, Nakatani successfully defended his title with an impressive first-round TKO against Vincent Astrolabio.
Entering the fight, Nakatani held the esteemed title of being the undisputed best bantamweight boxer in the world, as well as one of the top 10 boxers across all weight divisions. Boasting an impressive track record of 27 wins, all achieved through knockout victories, anticipation ran high for the young Japanese champion to deliver a dominant performance in the ring on that Saturday morning.
Despite Astrolabio’s impressive 7-1 record in his last eight fights and only being finished once throughout his professional career, Nakatani needed to quickly neutralize him and assert his dominance in this main event. Astrolabio has shown his resilience as a fighter and his ability to land fight-ending strikes in the later stages of fights.
Fortunately for the Japanese spectators, the undefeated champion managed to do exactly that. Nakatani swiftly found his rhythm, pursued Astrolabio, and unleashed a powerful blow to the body that halted the Filipino boxer’s progress. Even for Nakatani, who was highly favored, it was an incredibly impressive feat.
