Canucks Agree to Terms with Forward Daniel Sprong on a One-Year Contract

Vancouver, B.C. – Vancouver Canucks General Manager Patrik Allvin announced today that the club has agreed to terms with forward Daniel Sprong on a one-year contract.

Allvin expressed that acquiring an additional skilled winger would greatly benefit our club in the current season. He mentioned that Daniel has exhibited significant growth as a player and has proven his offensive capabilities when given the opportunity. By adding him to our forward line, our team will have improved depth and a more evenly distributed scoring potential among our forwards.

During the 2023-2024 season, Sprong, aged 27, made appearances in 76 games with the Detroit Red Wings. He recorded a total of 43 points (18 goals and 25 assists), along with 22 penalty minutes and a -5 plus/minus rating.

Hailing from Amsterdam, NED, this forward stands tall at 6 feet and weighs 195 pounds. Throughout their career, they have participated in a total of 344 regular season games, representing various teams including Pittsburgh, Anaheim, Washington, Seattle, and Detroit. In these games, they have accumulated a total of 159 points (85 goals, 74 assists), along with 66 penalty minutes and a -2 plus/minus rating. Additionally, they have also competed in 13 playoff games, contributing three points (1 goal, 2 assists), four penalty minutes, and a -3 plus/minus rating.

In the NHL Entry Draft of 2015, Sprong was chosen by the Pittsburgh Penguins as the 46th overall pick in the second round.
