In a hard-fought battle, the Timberwolves managed to prevent a sweep by securing a well-earned 105-100 victory in Game 4. Anthony Edwards showcased his leadership skills with an impressive performance, scoring 29 points and grabbing 10 rebounds. Just one assist shy of a triple-double, Edwards played a crucial role in reducing Dallas’ lead to 3-1, giving Minnesota a fighting chance.
Will Dallas be able to regain momentum with a victory tonight, or will Minnesota manage to extend the series to a Game 6?
Take a glance at all the essential information for tonight’s Game 5, featuring my predictions for the Mavericks vs. Timberwolves matchup and the top NBA betting options.

Mavericks vs Timberwolves Game 5 Predictions & NBA Picks Today (5/30)
Despite the Timberwolves’ challenging journey ahead, their Game 4 triumph demonstrated a glimmer of hope. However, it is worth noting that throughout NBA history, only four teams have managed to push a series to a Game 7 after being down by three games. The most recent instance occurred in last year’s Eastern Conference Finals between the Boston Celtics and Miami Heat.
In order to secure another victory, the Timberwolves need to effectively limit the impact of Luka Doncic and Kyrie Irving for the second consecutive game. During their previous encounter, Minnesota managed to restrict Irving to a mere 16 points, with shooting percentages of .333/.167/1.000. Although Doncic scored 28 points, his shooting efficiency was reduced to 33.3% from the field and 36.4% from beyond the arc.
Simultaneously, the T-wolves require Edwards and Karl-Anthony Towns to once again step up. The formidable pair faced difficulties in the initial three games, yet their collective 54 points in Game 4 displayed a promising endeavor.
Minnesota can also maintain its success in shooting three-pointers. In their recent game, the Timberwolves performed admirably by making 11 out of 24 attempts from beyond the arc, resulting in a 45.8% success rate. In contrast, the Mavericks only managed to convert 35.0% of their three-point shots.
Will Kyrie Irving have a bounce-back performance after underwhelming in Game 4?
However, despite tonight’s game taking place at Target Center, the Timberwolves may not possess a significant advantage on their home court. This is evident as they have already lost two games at home in this series and have now been defeated in four out of their previous five home games.
In addition, it should be noted that the Timberwolves have had a poor record of 1-4 straight up (SU) in their previous five games when they were considered the favorite. On the other hand, the Mavericks have shown a strong performance as they possess the ninth-best success rate when playing as road underdogs this season.
The Mavericks have been performing well on the road, with a solid record of 6-1 ATS in their last seven away games. Additionally, they have been successful in covering the spread with a 4-1 ATS record in their previous five visits to Target Center. On the other hand, the Timberwolves have struggled to cover the spread, managing to do so only three times in their last nine games.
The Timberwolves have struggled to consistently cover the spread lately.
While the Mavericks succeeded on the road to begin the series, I’m taking the Timberwolves to win. Minnesota finally looked like its normal self in Game 4 and I expect that to continue into tonight’s affair. It’s going to be another close game, but I have a tough time imagining the T-wolves failing to win at least one home game in this series.
At the same time, I’m taking Dallas to cover the spread. It’s well-documented that the Timberwolves’ recent ATS record isn’t great and they were already outscored by an average of two points in Games 1 and 2. Even though I’m predicting that the home team will win, the Mavericks are good enough to keep things closer than projected.

Gobert, acknowledged as a top NBA rebounder, has been underperforming in his recent games. Despite being a four-time Defensive Player of the Year, he has only averaged 8.4 rebounds in his last five games, consistently falling below the expected rebound count. Additionally, he has been unable to meet his rebound projection in his last three home games against the Mavs.
Due to the Mavericks’ exceptional performance in restricting the Timberwolves’ rebounding chances, it is advisable to maintain modest expectations for Gobert’s performance tonight.
