White Sox vs Cubs, Crosstown Classic Prediction, Odds & Best Bets: June 5th, 2024

Whether you prefer to call it the Crosstown Classic or the Windy City Showdown, one thing is for sure: it’s an epic battle in Chi-Town. The White Sox and Cubs are gearing up for the ultimate clash as they meet for the last game of their brief two-game series at the iconic Wrigley Field. In the previous match, the Cubbies managed to secure a nail-biting victory, edging out the opposition with a 7-6 score, thanks to Ian Happ’s game-changing double in the 8th inning, driving in two crucial runs.

Tonight, two right-handed pitchers will face off on the mound, and these teams will have to wait until August for their next encounter, where they may seek revenge.

Can the White Sox cause a major upset today on the North side? Alternatively, will the Cubs maintain their winning streak at Wrigley Field?

Crosstown Classic at Wrigley Field

Lately, Jameson Taillon has experienced some challenging performances.

Can the Cubs Get the W at Home?

Is it possible for the Cubs to defeat the White Sox in the Crosstown Classic?

Despite a few rough outings recently, it’s worth noting that Jameson Taillon’s last two starts took place away from home. However, his performance at Wrigley has generally been stronger. In the four starts he has made at home this season, Taillon has exhibited improved statistics compared to his overall season performance.

Taillon at Home

  • ERA: 2.84 – 2.13
  • WHIP: 1.26 – 1.13
  • K/Inning: 0.66 – 0.9

The numbers have seen improvement across the board, except for the White Sox who struggle to find hits. They have a meager batting average of approximately .215, whether it’s overall, on the road, or against right-handed pitchers. On the other hand, the Cubs also struggle against right-handed pitchers, but they perform better when playing at home. Their team average of .222 increases to around .230 when they play at Wrigley Field.

Despite the Cubs’ recent slump, I have absolutely no trust in Erick Fedde, especially when playing away from home.

Fedde on the Road

  • ERA: 3.12 – 5.79
  • WHIP: 1.18 – 1.54

The Cubs have an average of 4.33 runs per game, and they maintain a consistent performance at Wrigley Field. I have confidence in Taillon’s abilities when playing at home, and considering his recent struggles in the previous two starts, this game presents an ideal opportunity for him to bounce back. Therefore, my prediction is that the Cubs will secure a victory by a margin of 2 runs in tonight’s home game.

Chicago White Sox vs Chicago Cubs Best Bets

This season, the Cubs have won 17 games and lost 13 at Wrigley Field.

Best Bets: Cubs -1.5 (+115) BetOnline

Once again, we are choosing to fade the White Sox. It’s becoming a recurring pattern. It’s hard to deny that this team is performing poorly.

The MLB’s lowest-scoring team this season has been the White Sox, with a mere 178 runs. Their performance is significantly worse compared to the Miami Marlins, who have scored 224 runs and are ranked 29th in the league. The White Sox’s offense is practically non-existent.

The White Sox have now lost 12 consecutive games, but I must acknowledge their efforts as they managed to avoid complete defeat by covering the spread last night and on Saturday in Milwaukee. However, aside from those instances, the Sox have suffered defeat by a margin of 2 points in 14 out of their last 17 games, losing a total of 16 of those matches outright. On the other hand, the Cubs have a home record of 17-13, while the White Sox have struggled on the road with a meager record of 5-25.

I’m absolutely going to take this at BetOnline with odds of +115. It’s quite surprising that this is offering a positive return.
