Taking another look at the 2021 USWNT, a team that unfortunately had to settle for a less-than-ideal bronze medal finish in the Olympics.

The USWNT endured a disappointing showing at the pandemic-delayed 2020 Olympics. Despite having arguably the most talented roster in Japan in 2021, they were unable to manage more than a Bronze medal in the competition. They started the campaign with a 3-0 loss to Sweden, and after losing the semifinal, 1-0, to Canada, resolved to a third-place finish.

However, the team consisted of aging players like Carli Lloyd, Megan Rapinoe, and Kelley O’Hara who were still integral to the team’s setup. On the other hand, important players like Rose Lavelle were yet to establish themselves in the squad.

Assuming no injuries occur, the USWNT will have just three players who participated in the quarterfinal match against the Netherlands in 2021 as definite starters for their first game at the Paris Olympics on July 25.
