Adam Azim officially vacates the European super-lightweight title

After reigning for five months, Adam Azim has decided to relinquish THE European super-lightweight title, leaving it vacant.

Instead of facing Dalton Smith, Azim’s next defence was scheduled against Harlem Eubank, as the purse bids were due today (April 3). Additionally, the 140lbs title of the European Boxing Union has been declared vacant on their website.

On Saturday, March 30th, Azim stepped into the ring to face off against Eubank. Despite their intense confrontation and both expressing their desire for the fight, Azim’s promoter, Ben Shalom, who was present that night for his Boxxer promotion event, headlined by the British heavyweight title clash between Fabio Wardley and Frazer Clarke, did not confirm anything.

Later that night Azim’s trainer Shane McGuigan told Boxing News that the Harlem Eubank fight was definitely on and had been signed. On Monday (April 3), Azim announced on Twitter/X he had “officially signed” to fight Eubank. However, a date and venue are still to be announced.

Dalton Smith achieved a significant milestone in his career by defeating former world title challenger Jose Zepeda with a powerful body shot in the fifth round of their main event in Sheffield. It has been 11 days since this remarkable victory. Following his win, Smith challenged Azim to a fight. However, his promoter Eddie Hearn expressed certainty that Azim would dodge the fight and relinquish his title.

After a 137-day reign as the European champion, Azim’s run came to an end. In November of last year, the 22-year-old displayed his superiority over the aging and less skilled Franck Petitjean, who was defeated in the 10th round during his first defense. Additionally, Azim proved to be too formidable for Danish contender Enock Poulsen in February. The match concluded in the fifth round when Poulsen withdrew due to a shoulder injury.
