What is Next Generation?
Next Generation is a global UNICEF initiative bringing together diverse groups of young professionals, aged 21 to 40, who are committed to helping transform the lives of the world’s most vulnerable children.
Through a series of innovative events and creative collaborations, we work together to raise vital awareness and donations for UNICEF’s work.
Since our inception in the UK in 2014, NEXTGen London’s focus has been on Syria and the region as per the state of the emergency. The future of an entire generation of Syrian children is under siege as the conflict moves into a fifth year of violence and bloodshed. Currently over eight million Syrian children are in need of humanitarian aid. UNICEF are working around the clock in Syria and the surrounding countries to provide children with crucial and life-saving supplies such as clean water, medicine and psychological support.
As we expand into Europe, NEXTGen will focus on other emergency initiatives. Future projects are determined by our Steering Committees in partnership with local UNICEF National Committees.
What is UNICEF?
UNICEF promotes the rights and wellbeing of every child, in everything they do.
Specifically, UNICEF works to save and improve children’s lives, providing health care and immunisations, clean water and sanitation, nutrition, education, emergency relief and more. Together with their partners, UNICEF works in 190 countries and territories to translate that commitment into practical action, focusing special effort on reaching the most vulnerable and excluded children, to the benefit of all children, everywhere.
In all of its work, UNICEF takes a life-cycle based approach, recognizing the particular importance of early childhood development and adolescence. UNICEF programmes focus on the most disadvantaged children, including those living in fragile contexts, those with disabilities, those who are affected by rapid urbanization and those affected by environmental degradation.
UNICEF was created with a distinct purpose in mind: to work with others to overcome the obstacles that poverty, violence, disease and discrimination place in a child’s path. UNICEF advocates for measures to give children the best start in life, because proper care at the youngest age forms the strongest foundation for a person’s future.
