After the National Anti-Doping Panel’s decision to remove Conor Benn’s provisional suspension was appealed and won by the British Boxing Board of Control (BBBoC) and United Kingdom Anti-Doping (UKAD), the future for Conor Benn remains uncertain.
Since his victory over Chris van Heerden in April 2022, the British welterweight contender has not competed in his home country. A highly anticipated match against Chris Eubank Jr at London’s O2 Arena was scheduled for October 8, 2022, but unfortunately, during fight week, it was canceled due to the revelation that Benn had tested positive for the prohibited substance clomifene. Further investigation revealed that this banned substance had been detected in two different tests conducted by the Voluntary Anti-Doping Association (VADA).
In April 2023, news broke that Benn had been placed under a provisional suspension by UKAD since March 15.
In July, the NADP made a decision to lift the suspension. Nevertheless, the BBBoC and UKAD disputed this ruling and announced a month later their intention to appeal the verdict.
After resuming his career in America, Benn achieved victories against Rodolfo Orozco in September and Peter Dobson in February.
On March 26, the Daily Mail reported that the appeal had been successful. The publication added, ‘It is currently unclear whether the outcome of the appeal could lead to Benn’s British-based suspension being reimposed’.
