On September 3rd, NAOYA Inoue is set to make his comeback to the boxing ring, facing off against the seasoned Irish fighter, TJ Doheny.
In May, ‘The Monster’ emerged victorious after a thrilling battle against Luis Nery in the sixth round. It was anticipated that Australia’s Sam Goodman would be his next opponent, but Goodman decided to participate in an interim contest instead, which he triumphed in just last week. Murodjon Akhmadaliev, the WBA mandatory contender, was also vying for the opportunity to fight ‘The Monster,’ but it appears that he has been overlooked as well.
Introducing Australian boxer Doheny (26-4, 20 KOs), who once held the IBF super-bantamweight world champion title. TJ now has the opportunity to reclaim that title, along with three others, in Tokyo. Doheny gained attention after his impressive knockout victory against the undefeated Bryl Bayogos in the fourth round, while fighting on the Inoue-Nery undercard.
Doheny, hailing from Portlaois in Ireland, embarked on a journey to Australia in search of triumph, and he found it. However, his luck seemed to have faded after a defeat against the mentioned Goodman in March 2023. Yet, a remarkable series of victories in Japan has revitalized his position in the competition.
Ismael Barroso, a veteran boxer, will be participating in the undercard match against the undefeated Andy Hiraoka. Another exciting fight will be Yoshiki Takei defending his WBO bantamweight championship against Daigo Higa, and Jin Sasaki will also be showcasing his skills in the event.
