SAUL ‘Canelo’ Alvarez and Jaime Munguia made the weight in Las Vegas earlier, leaving only the fight night formalities to complete. Claiming all week that he remains fresh and motivated by a sport that has made him multimillions, four-belt king Canelo scaled 166.8 lbs while undefeated challenger Munguia came in at 167.4 lbs.
Mario Barrios’ defence of the WBC Interim welterweight title is on after he scaled 146.6 lbs. Looking comfortable at the 147-pound limit, his opponent Fabian Maidana was slightly lighter at 146.2 lbs.
The only hitch on the main card occurred during the Brandon Figueroa weigh-in. Figueroa came in at 125.4 lbs and is eligible to retain his WBC Interim featherweight strap. Opponent Jessie Magdaleno cannot take home the title, even in victory, after he scaled 128.6 lbs.
Despite being over the stipulated 126-pound limit, a deal was agreed for the fight to proceed. This is the second scare of the week for Figueroa after Magdaleno failed to attend the grand arrivals and a brief moment of confusion appeared to suggest that there would be no opponent for ‘The Heartbreaker’.
Eimantas Stanionis and his opponent Gabriel Maestre hit their targets, as did Jesus Ramos and Vito Mielnicki Jr.
The well-attended ceremonial weigh-in gave the fans a final chance to see their heroes before facing off in the ring. The actual official weights had already been taken and recorded behind closed doors.
