Robson Conceicao-O’Shaquie Foster world super featherweight title rematch ordered by WBC

The World Boxing Council has ordered a rematch between ROBSON CONCEICAO and O’Shaquie Foster, where CONCEICAO will defend his WBC super featherweight world title against Foster, the man he previously defeated.

In the third defence of his belt on July 6th, Foster suffered a split decision loss to the Brazilian challenger. Judge Ron McNair awarded a score of 116-112 in favor of Foster, whereas judges Tony Lundy and Paul Wallace sided with Conceicao, scoring the bout 116-112 and 115-113 respectively.

The verdict was met with puzzlement in the venue and on social media with many believing the champion deserved the nod. And on the Boxing News app no-one scored the fight for Conceicao.

On the social media platform X, WBC President Mauricio Sulaiman made an announcement earlier today (July 22).

“The WBC Board of Governors has made a decision to mandate a rematch between WBC super featherweight champion Robson Conceicao and former champion Oshaquie Foster.”

Foster will be relieved by the news, as he had expressed his anger and frustration regarding the original result on X the day following his defeat.

He penned, “This game is filled with trickery. It was one of the simplest battles I have ever encountered. We will exhaust all efforts to rectify this situation. However, I assure you all that in the event of a rematch, he will not last until the 12th round. I promise you that.”

The fight was quite forgettable, lacking in action. Hopefully, the rematch will be a more impressive spectacle.
